Surveillance cameras captured a woman who abandoned a small dog outside of an animal shelter in Salem, Massachusetts, in the midst of bitterly cold weather. The woman, wearing camouflaged clothing, opted to leave the little, black dog outside in the cold, rather than taking her inside to a staff member.

On Tuesday, the Northeast Animal Shelter posted photos of the dog, and the woman, along with a post directed at the person responsible for abandoning the dog in the cold:

Whoever you are that left your dog tied to an outside bench at our shelter this morning – she was discovered 45 min later after being outside in 7 degree weather.

And admonishing words for the poor decision:

Maybe we’ll never know the name she has always known, what she has been through, or why you didn’t go to another door at our building to talk to someone instead of just leaving her tied up but she gobbled up a warm meal and is wrapped in blankets and getting warm. She’ll be safe with us until she finds a new home with someone who will love her forever.

Individuals who need to surrender their pet need to ensure that the animal is safely in the custody of the shelter before walking away – especially when it is freezing outside.

  1. How does one do that? How are they able to leave a defenseless dog outside, freezing. Shame on you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you to those with a good heart and now that fur-baby is cold

  2. Post this picture EVERYWHERE…. someone knows this IDIOTIC, STUPID LOW LIFE monster who would abandon this little dog in freezing weather! She deserves a large FINE and or days behind bars for being…………..AND IDIOT!

  3. They would have taken in the dog but this dumb woman was selfish and didn’t want them to ask her questions about why the dog was being dropped off. Own up to why you can’t keep the dog, I am sure they’ve heard every reason/excuse. Instead the dog could have frozen to death and that is how much you cared about that dog. Disgusting woman and hope they find her and fine her for doing this.

  4. The video is very clear and this miserable excuse for a human is recognizable – someone knows who she is – her nasty face needs to be posted on TV – and WHY did it take the staff 45 minutes to discover this little dog? There is no excuse for any of this – another example of a what a shelter should NOT be. Thank god the dog was finally seen and is now being cared for. There is a lot of blame to go around here.

    • It’s not the shelter’s fault. She tied the dog where no one could see it. This happens to be a no kill shelter and they do fine work. I adopted Elvis a mini poodle from them.

  5. It is truly sad that ‘ANIMAL ABUSERS’ don’t drop dead on the spot. The World would be a much better place for us and the animals.
