A Virginia family’s pet wolf hybrid was put down following a fatal attack on their newborn baby. According to multiple sources, the eight-day-old baby was in a bassinet on Wednesday morning when the wolf dog attacked her. WFLA News reports that the family heard the infant crying and when they went to check on her, they discovered that she was covered in blood and suffering from “serious injuries” to her head and upper body.

The injured newborn was taken to the University of Tennessee Hospital for care, but she passed away from her injuries. The dog implicated in the attack (who was found standing near the bassinet when the injured baby was discovered) was put down on Thursday.

According to WJHL News, the family has two other dogs, and two other children – the situation is being investigated to see if any charges are warranted.

  1. What are these parents thinking leaving a baby alone with a dog, or any kind of animal? They don’t know the first thing about taking care of a baby, maybe they should just stick to dogs and forget having children!

    • I was thinking the same. I’m sorry for the family’s loss, but this could have been prevented if the family used some common sense.

  2. Sadly one can’t fix stupid…….. “Idiocracy” here we come……… It is a terrible idea to have a wolf hybrid anywhere near children, let alone a new born baby……

The ONLY person I feel sorry for is the baby who died due to her parents’ stupidity……..

  3. Did the dog “attack” the child or inflict the injuries when it unwittingly tried to pick up a crying baby? Too bad the dog couldn’t talk and he and the baby lost their lives because these parents didn’t know enough to keep a new born baby away from dogs.

  4. Was there blood on the animal standing near the bassinet? It doesn’t say in the article. Maybe it went to check on the baby when it heard it crying. There were 2 other dogs and 2 other children in the house also. Were they near? Just because an animal is a hybrid doesn’t make it guilty!

  5. Yes, by all means, let’s blame the wolf hybrid as the one doing the deed. Couldn’t be that he was trying to comfort the child like it would its own litter. No investigation, just that the dog was by the kid’s bed. REALLY? Next thing, let’s KILL IT!!! Wow. God only knows how much I hate humans.
