In Franklin County, Virginia State Police Trooper D.H. Cepelnik rescued orphaned baby bear cubs on Thursday after their mother was hit and killed by a vehicle in traffic.
According to the Facebook page for the Virginia State Police, the cubs have been relocated to the Wildlife Center of Virginia in Waynesboro. Here’s how the awesome rescue happened:
“The State Police in Franklin County, VA are some of the best officers in the country. Trooper Aj Berry was working nights and saved one cub with Cepelnik, and stopped back by hours later to find and save the other. Trooper Dave Cepelnik then helped make sure the cubs were taken to the wildlife facility to be cared for appropriately. Great job by both officers!”
As the cubs grow stronger, they can be watched growing up on the Critter Cam of the Wildlife Center of Virginia: www.wildlifecenter.org.
Many thanks to these officers for their service and many thanks saving the lives of these two adorable cubs. Meanwhile Trooper Cepelnik had the coolest experience hugging the little guys!

It is sad that there are so many law enforcement officers AREN”T more LIKE these Virginia Officers when it comes to animal rescues with both our wildlife and domestic friends!!!! They need commended for their efforts…
The fact that people who save wildlife in distress face prosecution is appalling. I’m so glad it seems not to daunt these kind and dedicated souls.
