At the Texas Animal Control in Odessa, not one dog was adopted on Tuesday. Not one dog was saved by a rescue organization after volunteers from the group Speaking Up For Those Who Can’t.

“The shelter has 153 animals right now. They can not have more than 150 at closing and animals are still pouring in. They will have to start killing animals if we can’t move some NOW!,” volunteers post on Facebook desperately trying to find help for young, healthy and adoptable pets.

Tragically, the overcrowded conditions at the shelter remains a community problem, and with only a few people wanting to save these dogs, hardly a dent has been made. Shelter volunteers are heartbroken that the dogs in the community don’t have more people fighting for them. And the problem of irresponsible owners still continues and gets worse.

A major part of the problem could be accomplished with spay and neuter programs – either at greatly discounted prices or for free. Approved rescue organizations are encouraged to contact the shelter; there is no charge for these organizations to rescue dogs. All of the dogs are fully vetted ($80 to adopt for private). Please share these dogs and help them find homes before it is too late.

  1. If people could adopt these animals who don’t live in the US there would be a lot of volunteers to adopt these dogs out. So instead of only allowing people who live in the US it should be world wide and not just in the US

  2. That’s the problem with Texas no spay and neuter programs and it will just get worse if nobody steps up.

    • I agree! It’s horrendous and what are the elected officials going to do about it? Obviously there are too many irresponsible pet owners. Make is law!!!!!

  3. ONE has to WONDER EXACTLY WHY TEXASS is going to HELL in a HANDBASKET!!!! I know ILLEGALS are a massive problem! BUT this can’t be the ENTIRE ISSUE HERE!! I virtually FEEL ILL on a daily BASIS READING about these POOR LITTLE CREATURES JUST being DUMPED by the HUNDREDS.. ( the PICTURES TODAY are LIKE a THIRD WORLD COUNTRY) like India! China, Vietnam, South America!!! Good God it makes one feel helpless… YET the FKIN HUMANE SOCIETY INTERNATIONAL BRING IN THOUSANDS OF DOGS from OTHER COUNTRIES. Our Government NEEDS to PUT A STOP TO THIS as I sincerely the HUMANE SOCIETY HAS SOME KIND OF A FINANCIAL BENEFIT DOING THIS AND IT IS NOT A BENEFIT FOR THE DOGS BROUGHT IT >>>IT IS A FINACIAL GAIN FOR THE SO ___ CALLED NON PROFIT!!! PURE AND SIMPLE >>> ELSEWISE THEY WOULD BE HELPING THESE LITTLE GUYS THAT ARE ON THE “EUTHANSIA LIST”” thru NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN!!!!! NOTHING SHORT OF CRIMINAL as I SEE IT>>> WE can’t even depend on Trump because he doesn’t like ANIMAL”s!!!

  4. These pups should be transported to other shelters within the state or other states that could adopt these dogs out faster. Some parts of this country have a shortage of animals due to better spay & neuter programs, which Texas must make mandatory or the owner pays a stiff fine. Areas like this in Texas should have traveling clinics to spay & neuter animals at low cost or free. That needs to be done or else Texas and other areas will continue to have the large number of animals in their shelters.
Also the USDA should go after all illegal puppy mills throughout this country and close them down and give high fines to prevent these scums from ever being allowed to breed and sell puppies again.

  5. Please help these innocent animals. Its not their fault that their stupid owners won’t spay or neuter them. Also make it cheaper to get this done so so many animals aren’t dying every second.

  6. I agree with Andrienne transport these dogs out of there to places like n.h. there’s usually maybe 5 to 6 dogs at any given time at these rescues don’t make these poor dogs pay with their lives don’t murder them give them a chance transport them out

  7. Heartbreaking, especially that litter of all black puppies…… we have an all black dog & my Mom has one too…… our precious little treasures…..

  8. This is an ongoing problem all over the country – a great dent could be put into the overpopulation problem if ALL shelters were mandated to spay/neutered in shelters – these shelters claim overcrowding BUT do nothing to stop this problem. Many lives could be saved by fixing animals before adoption – too many irresponsible owners don’t care or use adopted animals for backyard breeding – where too many animals end up dumped because they don’t sell – ALL ANIMALS SHOULD BE SPAYED/NEUTERED BEFORE ADOPTION –
