In Henderson, North Carolina, Stryker was rescued Thursday evening. No one knows who abused and tortured this young dog; his injuries are indicative of having been used as a bait dog.

Stryker was saved by Rescue Dogs Rock NYC. Emaciated, covered in puncture wounds and infected abrasions, the suffering he endured brought animal advocates to tears.

“He’s covered in wounds, the worst obviously on his head. He’s emaciated and you can see just scratched and cut up all over,” Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of the the rescue posted on the organization’s social media page. “Oh, and part of his tail just fell off!”

After Stryker’s emergency treatment at a local animal hospital, it was decided to transfer him to the rescue’s specialty veterinarian in New York City. Early Saturday morning, the dog arrived and was immediately given a blood transfusion.

“This poor boy arrived in NY about 6am this morning & went right to our 24/7 specialty vet. Our transporter cried when she picked him up, not at all prepared for his heartbreaking condition. He’s emaciated, can barely walk & has horrible wounds, the worst on his face. Stryker’s red blood cell count was only 15, so he’s currently getting a blood transfusion. We hope we are in time to save him.
