United Airlines shipped dog to Japan

As United Airlines grapples with a public relations nightmare following the death of a puppy who was placed in an overhead storage compartment, comes word of another airline/canine mishap. According to KCTV News, the same airline accidentally shipped a family’s senior German shepherd to Japan.

Kara and Joseph Swindle’s 10-year-old German shepherd, Irgo, was supposed to be on a flight to Kansas City  – but on Tuesday, when they went to the cargo facility to pick him up, they were presented with someone else’s Great Dane.

The Great Dane was supposed to be on a flight to Japan, but it appears that someone mixed up the kennels and shipped Irgo there instead. The airline issued a statement to KCTV News:

“An error occurred during connections in Denver for two pets sent to the wrong destinations. We have notified our customers that their pets have arrived safely and will arrange to return the pets to them as soon as possible. We apologize for this mistake and are following up with the vendor kennel where they were kept overnight to understand what happened.”

As for the puppy death – United Airlines has already accepted the blame for the incident which claimed the 10-month-old French bulldog’s life. The airline stated:

“This was a tragic accident that should have never occurred, as pets should never be placed in the overhead bin. We assume full responsibility for this tragedy and express our deepest condolences to the family and are committed to supporting them. We are thoroughly investigating what occurred to prevent this from ever happening again.”

  1. Yes, I can see how this happened, a German Shepherd and a Great Dane look so much alike, it would be easy to mix them up, NOT! I guess it’s beyond their capabilities to read labels also! What screw up will be next Untied Airlines?

  2. UNITED AIRLINES EXPRESSING THEIR CONDOLENCES WILL NEVER BRING BACK THE LITTLE PUG BECAUSE OF AN IDIOT FLIGHT ATTENDANT. IF THEY DIDN’T FIRE THAT STUPID BITCH THEN THIS AIRLINES MIGHT AS WELL SHUT DOWN. EVER SINCE CONTINENTAL IS GONE UNITED IS FOR THE PITS. RIGHT NOW I AM SO PISSED OFF AT THE MORON FLIGHT ATTENDANT TELLING THE OWNER TO PUT THE PUG IN THE OVERHEAD. I FLY OFTEN AND THERE ARE ALWAYS SEVERAL FLIGHT ATTENDANTS AROUND. WAS THIS DUMB BITCH THE ONLY ONE THERE SINCE ANOTHER FLIGHT ATTENDANT WOULD HAVE TOLD THIS JERK NOT TO PUT THE PUG IN THE OVERHEAD.

  3. WTH is wrong with United Airlines?!?
Is it near or do some of these people who work for the airlines have shit for brains?!?!?
This is so much more than a PR nightmare for them. They need to be investigated as to see what happens in their everyday operations from the simplest of jobs to the most complex.
This is so much more than just a mistake that happened only once & these mistakes or “episodes” happen with such frequency. I will never entrust this airline with anything so valuable as the life of my family or my pets. I don’t care if someone paid me to travel with them.

  4. Imbeciles working for the airlines, and it does not seem to be getting better.Hundreds of flights per day, but the average passenger expects them to do their job perfectly, not problems like this. How stupid and lack of concern for the owners of these dogs. This should happen to an airline executives family member and let see what happens them.

  5. Dogs going overseas are quarantined for six months. This means their dog may have to stay in Japan for six months (and then another six month quarantine after coming back home would be possible). I will NEVER trust one of my furbabies to this airline!

  6. Another nail for this airlines coffin. How the hell do you NOT tell the difference between a German Shepherd and Great Dane????? Oh wait — when you have imbeciles working in your employ, it’s easy. Better check your pilots skills or they may mistake the ocean with an oil slick runway. These two dogs are lucky they’re still alive. Sadly, the pug puppy didn’t survive the actions of the imbecile steward/ess. Accepting corporate responsibility does not nor will it ever bring the puppy back. NOR will it ever erase the horrible manner of death suffered by this puppy whose only wish was to be with his family. Fuck united.

  7. Ohhhh WOW a caring Airline let me see now they dont know that a French Bulldog is …………..A Dog …..Hmmm now a Great Dane confused with a German Shepard ……..Hmmmmm I take it the Labels that get put on the crates say LIVE ANIMAL plus ITS DESTINATION ?? Hmmm perhaps the Staff are maybe APES not Humans ……Ahhh got it !!!! Just can not be ARSED to read the Labels got it Dont care about anything as it was time to knock off or there might have been a Suitcase to rifle as it had no lock on SET OF CLOWNS even the Circus refused to take them on Bolloxed that up as well

  8. Once again United Airlines proves their employees are incompetent, irresponsible and totally inconsiderate of those who pay for their animals to be treated humanely during flights. They can apologize all they want, it means absolutely nothing – first some brain dead flight attendant killed a puppy, now some more idiots shipped two dogs to the wrong locations – and again, UA gives their usual lip service. This airline needs a complete overhaul starting from the CEOs and working its way down. This seems to be the usual practice for this incompetent airline – they will take the money and then treat you like trash – and most likely kill your pets along the way.

  9. What a bunch of idiots! After these snafus I wouldn’t fly United nor use United to transport my dogs. This senior dog went half way around the world and then back. It’s a long trip to be in the belly of the plan. I hope the dog is okay!

  10. These damn arrogant airlines apparently are working for the Russian Kremlin as their actions seem to be EXACTLY how the Russian monsters handle everyone within their reach. People need to stand up to these hateful bullies, sue the crap out of them and then select a week where NO ONE flies. Period! They’ll change their arrogant attitudes then. BTW: I quit flying 3 years ago when I saw them being given unlimited power in how they treat ALL passengers, regardless of their behavior. It’s one thing to treat a violent acting passenger in an aggressive manner, but they’ve ALL been treating EVERYONE, including companion animals, like prisoners in a 3rd world country. ASSHOLES!
