A Union, New Jersey man has been accused of running over and killing a puppy with his vehicle in a supermarket parking lot. On Friday, Luis Navarro, 73, was charged with one count of third-degree animal cruelty.
According to MyCentralJersey, officers from the Hillside Police Department responded to a call about the body of a dead puppy found in the ShopRite parking lot in Hillside. The incident was captured on surveillance video and showed multiple vehicles coming in and exiting the parking lot. The video then showed Navarro pulling in. He parked his dark gray Jeep SUV, went over to the passenger side of his vehicle, took the puppy out and put it down on the pavement. Navarro then backed out of the spot running the puppy over with the front and rear tire. The puppy, named Luna was killed.
Navarro is scheduled to appear in court on July 16. If found guilty of animal cruelty, he faces three to five years in prison.
