In Valparaiso, Indiana, two healthy dogs that had been taken to a veterinarian’s office by their owner for “convenience euthanasia” have found their forever homes.
The story of Sam, a pointer and Cosmo, a Labrador retriever mix, originally seemed as if they had a loving home. After all, their human had cared for the dogs for the last ten years. And then the fate of the two dogs quickly deteriorated. Their owner got divorced and was moving in with his girlfriend. Guess what? Yes, she was allergic to dogs.
Sam and Cosmo were whisked off to a veterinarian in Portage and their owner requested a “convenience euthanasia.” That is when healthy pets are killed for personal or convenience reasons. The veterinarian refused. The dogs were healthy and friendly; surely they could be with a new family who would love them. According to the Star Telegram, Penny Emerson, president of Begin Again Rescue Co. in Valpariso was saddened by the story of Sam and Cosmo and offered to help.
In June, the dogs were taken to Peoples Animal Welfare Society in Tinley Park, Illinois, and that’s where Eric and Tiffany Dybas found heard the story of the dogs and adopted them. The dogs are slowly acclimating to their new home – sleeping with their humans and playing in the yard.
Many thanks to another angel posing as a veterinarian. Many thanks to their new family. Feel free to check out Sam and Cosmo’s Instagram page:
