In Florida’s Panhandle, one of the most endangered species of sea turtles in the world, was found trapped in a bar stool – its body floating along with the bar stool close to shore in the Gulf of Mexico on Monday evening.

On the Facebook page of South Walton Turtle Watch, photos of the dead Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle were posted after the animal was discovered along Dune Allen Beach.

“This is so very sad, and so easy to stop. Please do not leave your items, anything, on the beach. We did get this beautiful lady out of the chair. She was a critical endangered Kemps and of course she was dead. Look at her head to see what she went through. Poor thing it must have been an awful death. Why can’t we keep things off the beach at night. Please spread the word and do your part.”

Special emphasis was brought out referencing how hard the turtle tried to free itself by the deep abrasions and injuries to its head. It is thought the bar stool may have fallen off a boat or had been lost from a seaside restaurant.

The Kemp’s Ridley turtle is one of the rarest turtles in the world and recognized by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission as one of the most endangered. There are fewer than 1,000 females able to lay eggs remaining in the world. Tragically, the red tide algae bloom continues to take a terrible toll on all species of sea turtles. Another Kemp turtle was found dead on Monday in Siesta Key. A necropsy confirmed the turtle died from its exposure to the red tide toxins.

What are we doing to our sea life? Surely man can do better than this.

  1. People are too selfish to care about things like this because it isn’t about them. Me, Me, Me, is all they say and want. For a moment they say oh too bad and then move on. What kind of uncaring country are we living in? I can’t believe someone didn’t see this guy and try to help him. People swimming, out on boats, and this poor animal has to die the way he did through no fault of his own. I am not a fanatic when it comes to too many things, but when it involves living creatures as this turtle who is just minding his own business, that is when I get mad.Call your Congressmen/women and Senators and tell them more needs to be done to prevent this from happening. That is if they can start doing the work that we want instead of working almost 2 years to remove Trump from office. You don’t like him, vote him out in two years. Done.
