On Monday afternoon, a third shepherd puppy was found tortured and dumped in a trash pile in Oakland. Just two days before, two abandoned and badly injured puppies were found in the same pile of trash. One of the four-month-old German shepherd puppies was missing a paw, and the other pup’s face and mouth was so mangled, she has not be able to eat.
According to CBSBNews, Pali Boucher of Rocket Dog Rescue stated volunteers and Animal Services had searched the entire area on Saturday when the first two puppies were discovered. The third puppy found, also has a broken jaw. It is feared a serial animal torturer could be inflicting these egregious injuries to the puppies. This puppy may not have been from the same litter, but suffers similar injuries.
“It’s a similar break. It’s exactly the same break where the other puppy’s jaw had been broken on both sides,” Pali stated.
Oakland Animal Services have not confirmed the cases are related, but have joined with the Oakland Police Department in an investigation. Pet Food Express is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) involved in animal cruelty case.
“We are offering the reward to encourage someone to come forward who has information about who is harming these puppies so we can stop it from happening again. We are all animal lovers at Pet Food Express and want to protect them as best we can,” stated the company’s owner Michael Levy in a statement.
The four-month-old puppy is being cared for at Oakland Animal Services emergency vet clinic.
