Update: Maddie was euthanized 1/9/18 – rest in peace

The last call has been issued for a terrified dog who was surrendered to the Animal Care Center in Brooklyn. The dog, named Maddie, is clearly confused by her current situation – volunteers and staff have noted that she is scared.

So scared, in fact, that she sits curled up in a ball, trying to escape her reality. So scared that she can’t be fully evaluated. Safer summary notes on Maddie explain:

Maddie was tense when approached in kennel. She is curled up in a ball with a tucked tail and whale eyes; she retreats to the other side of her kennel when the door opens. She growls once but then slowly walks up to the front where she is able to be leashed. Maddie allows very minimal handling and is tense throughout interaction. Out of concern for her stress levels and her response to restraint, we feel Maddie is not a great candidate for a handling assessment at this time.

Advocates are trying to find a safe place for Maddie to go – a place where she will feel secure enough to allow her true personality to come through.

  1. Please don’t let another good dog die because of HUMANS. Someone please take her and let her shine. What a waste NOT to save her.

  2. Especially Since DOGS ROCK NEW YORK::: WHY Doesn’t THAT WONDERFUL RESCUE ORG. STEP UP to HELP this POOR HELPLESS GIRL… in their own state ( FOR CHRIST”S SAKE)!! Maddy is despondent !!!! This is a horrific thing for a young beautiful dog like her to have to die needlessly!!! Then DRNY goes to TEXAS and spends thousands more to rescue a dog there…?????????WTF The DRAMA is WAY too MUCH!!!

  3. Maddie was killed today. RIP sweet pup, I’m sorry humans failed you, you’re safe now, run free.

It’s shameful this young dog wasn’t given a second chance. You can’t really give a reliable temperament test when a dog is scared to death not knowing what will happen. Dogs can smell death in these kill shelters.

    • She was killed because that is what NYCACC does to 95% of pit bulls. They are treated like throw away dogs who don’t stand a chance at this place. I despise this place with every fiber of my being – they are the bottom of the barrel.

  4. ANYONE who thinks any ‘care’ center connected to NYCACC will do anything to help a terrified dog is out of their mind – this place is nothing more than a death row, especially if they are a pit bull – who in the eyes of those in charge (and we know who that is) are throw away dogs. Maddie died because she was never given a chance to adjust and just left waiting for death – that is what 95% of pit bulls face at this piss hole. They are dumped in the back, never shown and if it weren’t for volunteers no one would ever know they were there.

  5. Why was she put down?? She wasn’t even given a chance. Y’all could have put it out there more for adoption. I would have gladly drove on up and taken her in. RIP poor Maddie. ????

  6. I’m confused one comment she is gone the next one is asking for help?… Is she gone or not and if not who has her, I want to help her.
