Imagine spending a lifetime without the love of your own family…without a home to call your very own. This is the reality for a handsome dog named Reagan, a dog who has lived an astonishing 10 years without a home.

Reagan, a Labrador retriever mix, is being cared for by the SPCA in Cattaraugus County (Olean, New York). Reagan’s Petfinder biography offers a glimpse into this homeless dog’s personality:

My name’s Reagan and it’s about time I find my forever family!  I have so much to offer a family.  I love going to festivals, craft shows, and state parks.  Some of my favorite places are Angelica, Pumpkinville, (love going on hayrides, baby!), and Allegany State Park.  I love long walks and going swimming in Cuba Lake.   I am very friendly with all people.

Reagan’s ideal family will be an adult home (or one with older children) and no cats or other “small critters.” Reagan’s biography explains:

I must go to a home without cats or little “critters,” because I have a high prey drive and the desire to chase and harrass geese and cats.  I also would do best in a home with older children.  When given exercise, experiences, and love, I am a very calm, contented dog.

Reagan has waited far too long for his own family – please take a moment to network his information and help him find a loving home!

Did you know that if you want to get updates from a Facebook page, you have to do more than just “like” it? To get recent postings in your Facebook feed, you must also hover your mouse over the word “following” and then click “see first” from the drop-down menu. You may want to check back with your favorite pages on occasion because Facebook often changes your settings, no longer having your favorites among those to “see first.”

  1. I don’t understand how it is possible that no one, zero people, have wanted to adopt Reagan in TEN FREAKING YEARS! Shared Facebook page on my Public Facebook page as well as Twitter. It only takes a minute to share and ypu just maybe saving a life.

This blows my mind. And Reagan is not alone. He may have the longest stay but there have been, and are, dogs waiting years to be adopted.

  2. Perhaps this dog has never been adopted because of his name. I mean “Reagan”, seriously?
Who wants to own a dog named after one of the United States’ worst presidents?

      • The dog is ten years old. It is used to that name. You cannot change it now. Most people would be embarrassed to have to address this dog as “Reagan”.

    • It’s hard to take anyone seriously with a name like “D” and when that same person comments that a dog has not been adopted because his name. There is a new trend. When a dog is adopted, the new family can change the name. And to politicize this poor dog’s story is unbelievable.

  3. Please adopt this dog and give him a home for however he has left. He is older so would be good for a husband and wife without kids living at home. Can easily be trained and would make a wonderful pet. We had a dog very similar and he was the best! He wanted to please us more than treats for himself. If interested, shelters will let you try the dog at home to see if he can adjust like an overnight or even for the day. She how he reacts to your home and you without the other shelter stimuli.

  4. Ten years in a shelter? At least Reagan has not been euthanized – I do give the shelter credit for this BUT this dog would be a great companion for an older person. He deserves a safe loving home – PLEASE step up and help this guy – his name means nothing – at least he isn’t named Trump.
