Michael Takacs adopted his dog, Precious as a puppy two years ago when he lived in Tampa. The pit bull mix had been the runt of the litter, and no one wanted her – that is except for Takacs. It didn’t take long for the two to bond.

According to Fox5NY, Takacs went to work in Kuwait for a year as a military contractor and had asked his friend to care for Precious while he was away. The friend promised he would take good care of Precious, and the dog would be there when Takacs returned home. Instead of keeping his word, the man dropped the dog off at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, telling the organization he had found the dog as a stray.

It only took a few days for a family to come into the shelter and fall in love with the friendly pooch. They adopted her, and it wasn’t until after the adoptions papers were final that the shelter found out what had happened. In turn, the Humane Society reached out to the dog’s new family to explain what had happened, but the family has refused to give Precious back to Takacs.

Unfortunately Precious was not microchipped nor had she been wearing any identification to help track her owner and return her home. Tackacs is heartbroken:

“You had the dog for three days, I had the dog going on three years,” said Takacs.  “I had the dog since she was a puppy, I held her head up while she ate, you know, this dog means the world to me, and I want her back.”

Tackas has offered the family $1,000 for Precious. He is also considering hiring an attorney.

What do you think?

  1. Get an attorney because Precious was in the care of another who gave her away with your consent.
How would be able to stop this if he’s out the country??
There must be some type of legal action you can do.
Sending positive energy for you to get Precious back

    • Unfortunately, this has been happening frequently over last several. Or because of social media, it’s reported more. Getting the dogs back from their adopters has been problematic because the new family has bonded with the dog. I hope this one has a happy ending.

  2. Precious is Michael’s family, not just a piece of property. The family can adopt another dog and they will fall just as quickly in love with another dog who doesn’t have a family that loves them. Those dogs need a family that doesn’t have one. Precious has a family who loves her dearly. How can people be so heartless as to keep a family member away from the one she loves. I guarantee, if you put precious in front of both families, she would run to Michael, her forever fur-daddy. I am standing with you Michael. If you write a petition or need the word to get out please contact me.

  3. That family has no freakin heart, the dog is bonded with Michael and needs to be returned to him, and I hope Michael beat the shit out of his so called friend for betraying him. Get an attorney if the asshole family won’t give Precious back and with media attention they’ll get slammed by everyone for being assholes for not returning her. Can someone let us all know the name of the asshole family?

  4. I don’t know how anyone who finds out that the dog they adopted has a story like this can NOT return the dog to the rightful owner! How would they like it if this happened to THEM? Give the dog back for pete’s sake, This man has had the dog for 3 years and certainly has a bigger bond than YOU do after 3 days. There are plenty of dogs in that shelter that need a loving family and you can give it to them, and love the new dog just as much as the one you are keeping from it’s rightful owner! Yes Michael Takacs needs to hire a Layer and pursue getting his dog back and sue his “friend” also for not living up to his promise! That POS should be ashamed of himself!

    • Happy New Year!! haven’t seen you on site. We were awarded fully ownership of M. Mule about three weeks ago!!! after over 2 years. So it was a relief that she would never go back to the abuser!! he killed the miniature horse, because he was afraid she would be used a evidence… made us sick… M. Mule is not safe and happy and her companion horses watch over her .. I believe they too know here former home was pure hell… take care Barkley’s Mom

  5. This man need to get a lawyer asap, one who deals with animals. Also this family need to be made public and displayed on facebook for all to see. Yes, they thought they adopted this dog for their family and though they got along well, the military owner did not give permission for his so-called friend to dump his dog off at a shelter as though he had no owner. I wonder if his so-called friend took any identification off the dog before dumping him. I certainly can understand how the family has formed a love/friendship with his dog, but honestly, if it were their dog that this happened to (one they raised from a puppy), I know they would be fighting to get their dog back regardless of a microchip or tags. This family needs to understand how close the military man has bonds with this dog from puppy hood and thought he found someone who would care for his dog until he got back.

This family is showing their children how to be scummy and just be selfish and not put themselves in this man’s position. This needs to be not only published on Facebook (who the family is), but also an article must be talked about on TV. I would not only be crying, but mad as hell at this family for not doing the right thing. There is more than one dog for a family and this family needs to show the public that they are selfless and return the dog and find another one. It will happen quickly as there is always more than one dog for a family to adopt.

  6. Return the dog to his “real” owner, go to the shelter and adopt another dog who needs a home,as for or the friend, wipe him out of your life!!!!

  7. Get a lawyer and force that ‘family’ of scumbags to give Precious back!

His filthbag ex-friend had no business giving her away, and, as such, she was STOLEN PROPERTY when he did so!

For them to hold on to her after having her for only 3 days, knowing he’d had her for 3 years and that she was actually STOLEN ,which is what this amounts to, is criminal!

While he’s at it and dealing with this scumbag family, I hope he also goes after that POS he used to consider a friend. That guy deserves to spend some time in jail, or, at least , be tarred and feathered…..

  8. Precious was dumped without Michael’s consent. The new family needs to give her back. There are THOUSANDS of other dogs needing a good home.

I adopted a dog who was found as a stray. For many years, I was afraid that someone would see Buddy and say “hey that’s my dog” because he was easily recognizable due to being found with 2 toes amputated from what appeared to be a hunting accident (buckshot in his other toes). Thankfully, it never happened and Buddy spent the rest of his life with me.

    • Thank you for your service sir first of all ! And that is terrible what your friend did. I think he can get an attorney and maybe start a gofundme page to help with attorneys fees or find one that will help pro bono. The family can adopt another dog. There are millions out there and then 2 lives would be saved!

  9. That family needs to return this sweet dog….and the scum bucket who surrendered his friends dog needs to pay all cost is getting the dog back to the rightful owner! THEN, the guy whose dog he gave away needs to file a civil suit against this POS.

  10. BLAME THE ASSHOLE FRIEND WHO DECIDED TO BRING THE POOR DOG TO THE SHELTER. SOMEONE NEEDS TO KICK THIS MAN’S ASS FOR PROMISING TO TAKE CARE OF THE DOG AND BRINGS THE DOG TO THE SHELTER WHAT A LOW LIFE SCUMBAG FRIEND. THE NEW FAMILY SHOULD RETURN THE DOG TO THE OWNER SINCE HE WASN’T AWARE OF WHAT WAS GOING ON. HIRE A LAWYER AND I BELIEVE HE WILL WIN. THEN BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF YOUR FRIEND.

  11. THAT BITCH HAD A HELL OF A LOT OF NERVE TO DROP THIS DOG OFF AT THE SHELTER KNOWING THIS DOG WAS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF. SHE SOUNDS LIKE A SELFISH POS.

  12. Know your friends. This butthead needs a sharp upper cut. I hope the dog will get back to the man that served our country. He doesn’t deserve to have his “family” given away. I wish him luck.

  13. Sounds like that family wants money and a lot of it. Extortion? Maybe, they know how much he wants his dog back. Hire a good lawyer, charge it to the “friend” and then get rid of the “friend”. You don’t need that kind of “friend.”

  14. Hire an attorney to get your dog back and sue your so call friend for all your legal fees.
I can’t believe this family would not give back this man his dog. There are other dogs they can adopt that need homes. They are very selfish
