No more than four-months-old and weighing less than 23 pounds, Bing was discovered on Monday lying in a ditch in Sumter, South Carolina. It is believed he had been hit by a car, and despite his horrific injuries the puppy had been able to crawl to the side of the road hoping someone would find him and help.

The driver of the vehicle never stopped, and Bing waited for days – suffering in unimaginable agony. Rescue Dogs Rock NYC were called and asked to help; of course there was no hesitation, and the puppy was rushed to the organization’s partner veterinarian for emergency life saving treatment. He was immediately put on intravenous fluids, antibiotics and pain medications.

And on Thursday, Bing underwent surgery.

“Puppy Bing is in recovery this evening after a grueling surgery to remove his mangled & badly infected back leg, as well as, his tail. His other badly injured leg was debrided & put on wet to dry bandages which require changes 3 times daily,” Rescue Dogs Rock NYC co-founder Stacy Silverstein posted on the organization’s social media page.

Bing is definitely a fighter his supporters say, and on Friday, his prognosis looked a bit more optimistic.

“Bing is recovering from his extensive surgeries yesterday to amputate his necrotic leg & tail. His fever was pretty high all day (not unexpected), but he is doing a bit better today. His other leg was debrided & will get bandage changes 3 times a day for now.”
