A young dog, still just a pup at 11 months of age, is in desperate need of help. His name is Rocky and he is located at the Los Angeles County Downey facility in California. On August 23, Rocky was surrendered to the shelter by his family for being “too vocal,” and now he is out of time.

Advocates for Rocky

On Tuesday, information was posted to social media on Rocky’s behalf:

ROCKY- 🛑11 Month Old
🌟End of Day Tomorrow
Just a Babe!
Owner surrender for being Vocal. 😔 So young and he has a old injury.
We have no time to waste.
Just till end of day for this pup. Shelter Plea!

We are reaching out to rescues to help this poor boy Rocky, he has medical concerns that we cannot tend to at the care center and a foster is needed. Medical records are attached.
physeal fracture of left femural head with arthritis change of hip ]
Because of his injuries he has not been tested with other dogs. So I wont be able to provide no notes on other dogs.

Of note, though Rocky was not tested with other dogs, he was noted for being “friendly” on intake.

  1. I Know that the Montana German Shepard Rescue has tried Numerous times to rescue from California and they REFUSE to work with out of state Rescues!!! Go figure !!! Hopefully a Rescue in Southern California WILL step up… this dog has already had a Horrible Life at such a young age , determined by the type of injuries his displays!!! I hope of the MIRCLE he NEEDS!!!! before it is too late… AH California is definitely NOT the SUNSHINE STATE when it comes to the Welfare of the Homeless Companion Animals!!

  2. There has to be some rescue that can help!! Please!! He is so young. He can give so many good years!! I pray that someone will step up before the end of the day and save him!!

  3. He’s so gorgeous I would take him in a minute but I live Ontario and by the time I got a ticket to go they would likely have euthanized him.
The people who drop off pets like this should be made to pay for their shelter and care until a proper home is found.
I don’t understand why they just didn’t contact the people whom they bought this Shepherd off he’s clearly a purebred.
They may have taken him in and found him in another home.
Obviously his previous owners are extremely irresponsible they didn’t even reach out to any other out-of-state rescues that could have helped.
Their excuse for returning him pretty much says it all his femural injury also says it all.
Not so easy to break a femur in both humans and canines….only blunt force trauma would cause this.

    • Agree, a suspicious injury. The shelters wont accept money paid to maintain a animals’ stay. I tried it before. Also, if you try to make the persons leaving the animals pay, they won’t even bring the animals in. Instead they will kill them, or dump them where many will suffer and then die anyway.

  4. Pray the GS rescues see this boy and take him in.He is so young and has so many years left a a lot to offer a family or single person. He looks so beautiful. Even fostering this boy until the right match for his is there.

  5. WE ARE ALWAYS HEARING of GOOD YOUNG DOGS to TRAIN FOR COMPANION DOGS FOR OUR VETERANS!!! WTF PEOPLE OUT THERE HERE IS ONE RIGHT here with the potential to become a very GOOD companion DOG!!!!
