In Seoul, South Korea nearly all the restaurants in Pyeongchang county where the Winter Olympics will begin Friday, January 9 have defied government requests not to serve meat made from dogs.

According to the Daily Mail, South Koreans consume one million dogs a year. Animal activists have stepped up campaigns to ban dog meat consumption, urging boycotts of the 2018 event. And even after the local government asked the 12 restaurants in Pyeongchang County to stop serving the dog meat dishes in exchange for subsidies, ten of the restaurants have not complied according to Pyeongchang County government official Lee Yong; stating the restaurants would lose business.

“Some of them initially shifted to selling pork or things instead of dog meat only to find their sales plunging. Then they swiftly switched back to dog meat,” stated Yong.

Selling and serving dog meat is officially frowned upon in South Korea, yet the high demand continues the disturbing practice of stealing dogs, raising dogs, torturing dogs and plucking away their lives slowly – with some merchants believing the more the dog suffers while dying, the more tender its meat will be. Dog meat is officially classified as “detestable” by Seoul but that does nothing to make it illegal. One in three Koreans have eaten dog meat at least once, and one in 20 considered to be regular diners.

Although the tradition has declined as the young South Korean population embraces dogs as pets and no longer livestock, the country’s largest open-air dog market is located just outside of Seoul and the dog meat trade, allegedly slated to close last year in preparation for the Winter Olympics, has just become more secretive.

Tragically, the photos and videos garnered from rescue organizations are nothing short of heartbreaking. With 3,000 athletes from 92 nations, the eyes of the world are on Pyeongchang as the Winter Olympics get underway. From snowboarding to ice skating to female hockey players from both North Korea and South Korea making history on political fronts, what about the dogs made to suffer inhumane deaths? Who will watch over their lives?

  1. Savage maggot barbarians with NO respect for anyone but themselves. Olympian come from many countries who don’t eat dogs. Fuck that country!

  2. These people are certifiably insane! ALL studies regarding the slaughter of ANY animal, have show 100% that the less animals suffer just before slaughter, the more it makes for a better tasting/tender meat product. Ergo KOSHER. The fact that 1 in 3 have had dog meat in their LIFETIME and 1 in 20 are REGULARS, PROVES they are LIARS when claiming that their sales plunge when they switch to pork, etc. This shows that these sadistic barbarians think other people are stupid and cannot do basic math. Obviously these evil, heartless bastards continue it for the PURE enjoyment of hateful, despicable treatment of innocent animals. What I don’t understand is WHY does the rest of the world KEEP funding these vile sub-humans by purchasing products made there and provide tourism dollars. This could be stopped within a year if EVERYONE who is against these heinous actions would BOYCOTT everything Korean. It’s clear that these disgusting bullies only care about money, which is why they STEAL other people’s pets, making it cheap to procure, while these thieves make all the profit from STEALING and breaking the hearts of children. The fact that the government continues to turn a blind eye is yet another reason to BOYCOTT. I invite YOU to use YOUR power of the purse.

  3. I wish I were there….. and I would take a pic axe to all of the ugly toes and feet I see in that picture….make sure it was not just blood from the dogs covering the concrete floor.

  4. This is disgusting ,dirty ,illegal and inhumane. They are spreading rabies all over the place, which maybe a few of them need to catch. The government can’t control their own people. The news article is posted on yahoo under the subject of pets .

  5. What good is the Olympic Committee? They should put for more effort when the games are going to be held in a country that eats dogs. Either that or those countries cannot hold any Olympic Games ever.

  6. BOYCOTT THE OLYMPICS – Since South Korea defied the government’s request – let them lose $$$. I pledge not to watch one second of this dog/cat murdering country’s games – this is a horrific cruel practice that MUST be outlawed and between them and the other Asian countries that continue to use dogs and cats as food – do not purchase any product from any Asian country.

  7. Any one from that country will VERBABLE BE ABUSED BY ME in Public..

I am now raciest against Koreans. Korean restaurant in Bellevue Washington ( Microsoft headquarters ) got caught serving Dog and Cat meat few years back.

TRUMP doesn’t have the balls to stand up for animal rights with Korea..

  8. These are sick people. If it finally frowned on officially, then that is one more step toward ending this gruesome and barbaric cruelty. These people who torture these dogs are barbarians.

  9. It’s kinda sad to see these uneducated people including the author of the article judging South Koreans who eat dogs. I personally raise two dogs and love animals, but If you want your logic to work, you shouldn’t eat any kind of meets including pigs, cows, chickens and etc. How do you guys think it’s ok to eat cows and pigs but not dogs? every country has a different culture and South Koreans definitely don’t need to follow yours. It is their decision to consume dogs or not and you guys have no right to judge them unless you are a vegeterian and have the guts to critisize those eating pigs and cows. And there is no HUMANE way when killing any sort of animals.

In general, the only logic the people againt eating dogs can say is dogs are the closest animal to people. but this is not logical at all and there certainly are people raising pigs and cows.

So, think again before you speak/write and have some respect about other cultures.

    • Consumption of dog meat is not in our culture. The dogs that are killed in Korea and other Asian countries are inhumanely butchered, boiled alive and made to suffer unfathomable abuses. No matter what anyone’s culture, NO ONE has the right to make any animal suffer. As to your premise of being uneducated, I strongly disagree and suggest you do some more research of your own and educate YOURSELF about the atrocities these poor animals have to endure before welcoming death. You’re in the wrong venue Alex to even suggest I condone animal cruelty.

      • so are you implying that it’s ok to eat dogs if they are humanely killed, just like how cows and pigs are killed? If you’re so in love with animials, have you ever raised the same issue to those eating cows, pigs, or other animals?

  10. These people are heartless, these are innocent creatures being tortured, boiled and it’s a horrible thing that is suppose to be banned they claim it’s healthy I say bullshit .sickos need real jobs and to have a heart.
