There has been social media outrage for a Russian YouTube celebrity and prankster who posted on Twitter and Instagram showing a chimp getting “stoned.” Vitaly Zdorovetskiy uploaded video of the monkey named Cesar inhaling from a bong and,

“getting the munchies”… with the caption “When your friend smokes for the first time.”

Moments later in the video he asked the monkey

“Are you high brother?,” as the chimp runs away for the safety of a nearby couch.

Cesar is then given a piece of fruit, with Vitaly asking if he had the “munchies”  and later is seen pushing a cigar near the sleepy chimp.

Then came a litany of criticism with most viewers and readers calling Vitaly an animal abuser and showing their disgust with the obvious poor taste prank. Some followers threatened to report him to animal advocacy groups or to get his page removed from all social media platforms. According to The Sun, one subscriber stated:

“I will do everything in my power to get your twitter page banned and charged with cruelty to animals.”

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is currently investigating.

Zdorovetskiy rose to fame in 2014 during the World Cup when he streaked across the field. He has nearly 10 million subscribers and conducts pranks and workout videos on his channel which has accumulated more than 1.5 billion views. He has been arrested for calling in a fake bomb scare threat and has been accused of being both racist and sexist.

As with all crazy stuff on social media, a few subscribers thought the monkey getting high was funny.
