Update 6/26/18: Rest in peace Bobby

Nearly two years ago, a dog dubbed Bobby was abandoned in a park. He was taken in at a California animal shelter and today he is still homeless…and losing hope.

Bobby’s despair

Imagine being locked away in a kennel, day after day, for nearly two years. Imagine the toll that would take on a dog’s heart. Bobby is no exception – the sparkle is gone from his eyes and the stress of being locked up is far too apparent.

A day of joy

Volunteers knew that they had to intervene on Bobby’s behalf – he was taken out of the kennel and enjoyed a hike. Amazingly, the sparkle returned to his eyes and his tail once again began to wag. The following description was written about Bobby’s big day out:

We took Bobby on a day trip Sunday morning for a hike. We wanted him to know that we cared, and that he matters to us. Bobby didn’t cease to amaze us. He knew something was up when we got to his kennel, his spirit was up and he smiled. He happily hopped in the car and buckled his seat belt and off we went. Bobby clearly loves the car ride and he’s an excellent passenger (we’d give him a 5 Star review on Uber!). Aside from his usual pulling on the leash, Bobby was so well behaved and enjoyed every moment of being out in nature. He’s definitely an outdoors type of dog and would make an excellent hiking buddy! Bobby also likes the kiddie pool and loves tennis balls.

Bobby still needs help

Bobby enjoyed a special day…but he still needs help because he is still homeless. Bobby’s friends wrote:

Bobby has been at the shelter since August 2016, it’s time he finds a home to call his own. His muzzle is turning gray before our eyes and it breaks our hearts to see him grow old at the shelter. We are working on introducing Bobby with other dogs, will update as soon as we have info. Please share and help him find the home he’s been waiting for.

How you can help

Networking is critical! Please share Bobby’s adoption information (all included in this article) to help it reach the person who will love him for the rest of his days.

Give him that loving 4ever home he deserves!! He’s such a beauty, and the volunteers say he’s such a good boy!!!

  4. PLEASE some kind person step up for Bobby – he has been stuck in a shelter for way too long and desperately needs a home of his own. You will never regret giving him his forever home. He will give unconditional love. Make Bobby yours. I do thank this shelter for keeping Bobby much longer than most shelters would – he is a special boy and deserves a good home – please make it yours.

  5. Sharing with love and prayers for his life and freedom. Sharing thru tweeter and facebook as well. Asking our dear lord to please help him find a home.

  6. No Longer Listed on Petharbor…… Does anyone have an Outcome? Has he been Rescued or Adopted? I can’t ring shelter as Im in Australia!

  7. Deb, I tried to reach that shelter over and over as soon as I received the post because I wanted to donate for someone to take him outside every day.
Finally, I reached them and was told he was euthanized already because he had an injury ??? Not sure I believe them. In any case, they didn’t waste any time killing him. Many many tears.

  8. He was killed. Him and a few others there 2 years. I can’t understand. Shelter volunteer said there was rescue call for him night before but was too late. The volunteers weren’t even notified he was going to be killed as well as the others. Mages me angry and sick. 2 years there you couldn’t hold off after the story was written? The shelter was in the wrong I want to email them. These CA well all are terrible. Death camps. 2 years there I can’t get over that fact and kill on a fly. Sickening and sad

    • This is beyond “tragic”! The fact that they don’t seem to have an email really hurts all of their animals. I miss Bobby–I really think I would have been able to sponsor him.

  9. I am so pissing angry that i am going red in the face. How dare they put Bobby down. I don;t believe in what they said that he had a injury what a load of bloody bullshit.
If i knew there e mail i would be giving them a piece of my mind. How about that we all send them a e mail and tell them what we think of them. That is if somebody could find the e mail address that is

  10. Thank you for that Betty its most appreciated now i have started crying.RIP Bobby you didn’t deserve to die no dogs deserve to die like this. You will be sadly missed but never forgotten 🙁

  11. It seems to me there really was NO way to save this poor senior…… This poor senior had no timely advocacy and that IS heartbreaking……. what is even more heartbreaking are all those we never hear about at all…… or the ones where people are trying to save them but are not given ANY support from supposed transportation groups (even when one has offered to reimburse the group for their costs)……

Precious treasure, your life was stolen from you (& your life mattered). I am absolutely heartbroken for your death. So sorry that humans failed you in every way possible……

Please look for MacKitty in Heaven and he will welcome you into his snuggle buddies group. You can RIP amongst his loving friends……..

In some so-called shelters, the staff is “needle happy”….. which is another way of saying “callous, cruel & indifferent to suffering”…….. I truly believe that anyone who is deliberately cruel to others (people or animals) will burn in Hell forever for their cruelty…..

  12. I pray daily that one day we will be reunited in heaven with these innocent defenseless animals. That is what heaven means to me.
