The sheriff’s office in Bastrop County, Texas, is investigating after reports of possible abuse and/or neglect at property off of Highway 969. As reported by KXAN, the sight of a dying, emaciated horse in a field prompted multiple calls about possible animal cruelty.

A heartbreaking situation

The heartbreaking situation was brought to light by a social media user who bore witness to the dying, skeletal horse. Facebook user Tondra Daily wrote:

“saw this poor soul in the middle of a hot pasture dying slowly, covered in flies, struggling to get up far from water and no shade… With owners not far off. How long has he been suffering? How can we as humans allow this kind of suffering?”

Adding:

“I told him I was so sorry, asked for his forgiveness and told him he was a good boy.  I couldn’t hold back tears as I talked to the sherriff… The owner eventually came out with his wife and kicked me off his property. I begged him to put the suffering creature out of his misery but he insisted none of it was my business and told me to get the hell on.”

Investigation

According to KXAN, the sheriff’s office is trying to determine if the horse simply died of natural causes, or if there was neglect at play. Bastrop County Sheriff Maurice Cook told KXAN that the property owner runs a rodeo rescue operation. He stated that the allegations of possible cruelty are being taken seriously.

What are your thoughts? Should animals be allowed to die a “natural death” if it means prolonged suffering?

  1. No living creature deserves to die a slow agonizing death. Except those that cause it for others. Do unto others as you will have others do unto you. You cause pain and suffering to something then you shall have pain and suffering dealt unto you.

  2. Leave the owner outside to wither away to nothing and no one feed him or give him any water. Same way he treated this poor horse is the way he must be treated. He is scum and needs to be away from normal people.

  3. This is NOT a natural death! It is cruel and heartless! The only ones that deserve this kind of torture are the heartless subhumans that would do this to
    an innocent defenseless animal!

This “murder” should be thoroughly investigated with serious charges against the sick evil psychos!

  4. Hate does not even begin to express what I feel for this butt head owner who kicked people off his property that were trying to rescue this beautiful horse. This is horrible…..surely this nitwit will be held liable somehow!

  5. WTF!!!! They were right there, they saw this poor suffering horse and DID NOTHING!!!!!! WTF!!! The owners need to be charged with his suffering and make their stupid ass stay outside with no food or water and let them die of “Natural Causes” WHat stupid ASSHOLES!!!

  6. So what do we do? Someone please tell me how to help. I can rant and rave all day long, but we need to do something about cases like this. What do we do??

  7. The police department needs to be held accountable.
How can any sane human being need to investigate if there was cruelty involved?
If the police cant be bothered to take this disgusting type of behavior seriously then why would these criminals bother changing their denmented habits?
