A man’s beloved service dog is missing after a carjacking earlier this month in Lakewood, Colorado. On the evening of March 4, Darren Schook’s 10-year-old service dog was taken, along with his SUV, from the parking lot of a Taco Bell off Simms Street and West Colfax.
Schook told KDVR News, “It’s the most miserable, hurting … it’s gut wrenching.” Schook’s vehicle has since been recovered. In a post on Schook’s Facebook page, Fight Breast Cancer, Not Pit Bulls, the update was shared on March 23:
The vehicle was found abandoned in Strauss, Kansas, but I was not in it. I am a service dog, and I am micro-chipped.
Mia seems to have vanished – and Schook is desperate for her return. On March 24, another update was posted on the Facebook page:

Did you know that if you want to get updates from a Facebook page, you have to do more than just “like” it? To get recent postings in your Facebook feed, you must also hover your mouse over the word “following” and then click “see first” from the drop-down menu. You may want to check back with your favorite pages on occasion because Facebook often changes your settings, no longer having your favorites among those to “see first.”
I hope the best. Hope someone sees her and calls!
I shared this post in finding Mia
I pray this precious dog is returned and ok….if she was sold for drugs that is just horrible. ARREST THE JERKS who did this!!!!
Pray his dog is found ok and nothing happened to her. All shelters should be called in case she was just let loose and could have been picked up as a stray. Please keep us up to date.
My heart goes out to Darren Schook, I hope and pray he finds Mia safe and sound!
those thugs; yeah turn in your guns so morons like that can run around and steal what you worked hard to acquire. I hope that poor dog isn’t being used as bait for fighting dogs?
I feel so bad for the poor guy. I sure hope he gets his service dog back soon.
I really hope she’s found safe and sound.
Scary how many horrible things they could have done with her. Hope they find this guy ASAP and he’s able to lead them to her quickly.
PLEASE – Mr. Schook post a reward for Mia – one of those miserable punks will be greedy enough – Mia is in horrific danger of being used by dogfighters as a bait dog and I KNOW this is not what you want to happen. This is so scary because if she was sold for drugs which goes hand in hand with dog fighters Mia’s life is in serious jeopardy – get the media involved – their voice stretches far – I truly hope that Mia can be found and returned to Mr. Schook and resume a happy life. Please keep us updated – we are all very concerned about her.
Prayers***
