A musician, who suffered from a medical condition which left him unable to walk, has been discovered outside of his home in Paradise, California…his beloved service dog, Bernice, was by his side. The pair are victims of the devastating Camp fire which has destroyed most of the Butte County town.

The fire victim

As reported by the Los Angeles Times, Foss had lived in San Francisco for his entire life, but the cost of living forced him out – he relocated to Paradise eight years ago. On GoFundMe, Foss’ daughter, Angela Loo, wrote:

As many of you know by now via his Facebook page and the news, my Papa, Ernest Foss is the first identified victim of “campfire” wildfire. He was found deceased outside his home along with his beloved pup Bernice. My Stepbrother Andrew is still missing, though I know he was with my Dad, trying to get him out of harm’s way. We are still hopeful,  and not giving up searching, but the reality is grim.

The fire

The Camp Fire has achieved an unwelcome status – the most deadly fire in California’s history. The death toll has climbed to nearly 50, and thousands of homes have been destroyed. Many residents of the town which is located in the foothills of California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains.
