Update 1/25/18: Jade has been adopted!

A senior dog, eight years of age, is at risk of being put down because he has contracted a respiratory virus at the Animal Care Centers of NYC. The dog, named Jade, was surrendered on January 6 by his owner who cited health issues as the reason for giving his dog up.

Jade is a good boy who lived in a loving home – he aced his behavior tests at the animal care center. A volunteer writes:

“You gotta love a guy who can snooze when all around him is going bananas. I did a double-take when Jade finally roused himself to see what the fuss was about. His pictures don’t do him justice — he’s long, lanky, and gleaming gold. He is a pleasure to leash and walk, and takes care of business right away. Though a bit reserved to start, he’s soon smiling back at you and then leaning against you for shoulder rubs, and likes playing fetch. He is dealing well having lost the only home he’s known since puppyhood, as his former owner was having personal problems. Jade was gentle with the small child there, didn’t mind being brushed, bathed or pushed off furniture, and didn’t guard his food or things. Jade aced his behavior exam, and is now ready for a lucky new home. Meet him soon at Brooklyn ACC.”

Jade has done nothing to deserve his current situation – he is a good boy who deserves a loving home. If help doesn’t arrive soon, he will become nothing more than a sad statistic. Read all of the shelter notes on Jade at this link. Read more about the New Home program for at-risk dogs here.

  1. Beautiful, friendly, happy dog that just wants a family to love. Foster or adopt this lovely dog. Most dogs in NYC shelters come down with kennel cough which is easily treated and gone within 1/2 weeks. Not a big deal because most of these dogs come into the city shelters healthy and come down with it when in these germ infested NYC shelters. We got a dog from there and she had a horrible ear infection that was never mentioned nor treated. We thought she had kennel cough but didn’t.

    • Agree. My mastiff was rescued from NYC shelter 11 years ago. He was slated to be euthanized because he developed kennel cough in the shelter and the shelter didn’t want to treat him. A rescue organization pulled him out in the nick of time and the rest is history. Boo is still with me today, silver face and all.

  3. Jade would be the PERFECT DOG for a COMPANION ORGANIZATION to OBTAIN ::: he would be easily trained to assist a Veteran , an Older Individual , and IT WOULD BE SAVING A LIFE of a DOG that deserves to LIVE HIS LIFE OUT & Help others TOO!!! It would be a shame to put him down…
