Dog lost by groomer found injured in ditch

What began as a routine grooming appointment nearly ended in utter tragedy for a family in Fayetteville, North Carolina. According to ABC 7 News, 10-year-old Ellie was dropped off at  South Paw Pet Grooming last Wednesday, but she escaped the business.

What happened?

In a fundraiser created on Ellie’s behalf, her owner, Addrienne Vanover, recounted the situation:

My sweet Ellie went to the groomers on December 5th. Around 2pm we were contacted that Ellie was missing. We searched relentlessly for her and after 24 hours found her laying in a ditch. Ellie was found nearby the groomers approximately 300-500 yards away. My neighbor and husband found her while we were canvasing the area. She was next to the train tracks in a ditch under some leaves. It’s a miracle my neighbor saw her because she couldn’t move and she wouldn’t bark.

The injuries

The wounded dog was taken to a veterinarian who determined that she had a broken hip and leg – surgery to repair her injuries is required. A fundraiser has been created to help cover the staggering expenses – click here to read more.

As to how Ellie managed to slip away from the groomers…that has not been disclosed.

  1. Do they have any idea how she suffered these injuries. Are they sure the Groomer didn’t inflict them and then dump her in the ditch?
I hope they get to the bottom of what happened to poor Ellie, somethings isn’t adding up. Prayers being sent for a quick recovery.

  2. So glad that Ellie was found but hope the groomer offers to help with the cost of surgery since they share the blame for this happening and somehow allowed Ellie to get out. Pray that Ellie recovers and this facility steps up and helps.

  3. There NEEDS to be stronger Rules and Regulations at ALL dog Grooming facilities… and they need to have National guidelines and regulations and manadatory inspections…
