When the Morgan County Animal Shelter in West Liberty, Kentucky posted a video of a scared three-month-old puppy as a shelter employee tried to pet the pooch earlier this week, the heartbreaking video went viral. Under the video, the description told the story:

“The only touch a dog should ever feel is one of kindness.”

Words weren’t needed to describe this puppy’s plight. The video has been shared more than 3.6 million times. (Caution – some may find the video disturbing. It is not violent.)

Shelter Director Kathy Sexton explained it did take a little while for the puppy named Ammo to relax and allow the gentle pats. Just days later, Ammo’s tail was wagging and the adorable pooch was giving away wet kisses.

Sadly Ammo is just another example of the emotional trauma puppies and dogs suffer as the result of abuse and neglect. It is hoped the video has brought awareness to the plight of these innocent victims. A few days later, Sexton posted a follow-up video of Ammo. Check how kindness and compassion have changed this terrified little one into a sweet, loving and affectionate puppy.

Fortunately it didn’t take long for Sweet Souls Animal Rescue in Pennsylvania to arrange to help both Ammo and his “brother” Bullet. The two dogs will be fostered until they are ready to be placed for adoption.

How’s that for a new beginning? If only all dogs were this lucky. Don’t shop – adopt. Change the life of a dog and find a new best friend.

  1. Only sick bastards abuse animals and this poor dog doesn’t know what to do when she is touched by human hands. Hope all animal abusers slowly rot with pain.

  2. All shelters should try whatever means necessary to have their dogs/cats adopted. Videos help a lot for someone who is a distance away as it gives a visual experience of what this animal is like. Networking also helps and there are many people on the web who do that. Help as much as you can to get these animals into loving homes where they belong and will thrive.

  3. My Grandfather was born in 1898 in Greenup Ky… his family name Rosser… they moved to Colorado in the early 1900’s Grandpa always till his dying day spoke of the hard lives that horses, mules, dogs had in Ky. his heart was pure gold and he would bring stray’s home from the railroad yards and find homes for the..all though he was not a real cat person… I hope these little guys find a loving home with the rescue that SAVED Them… Why is this state so animal unfriendly !!! it appears…. economic factors or plane not nice people!!! Moonshine!!!

  4. Ammo and Bullet had a rough start but their lives have improved thanks to Sweet Soul Animal Rescue – now all they need is a safe loving home that is surely out there for them. They both deserve it – and to the maggot puke who treated them so poorly, I hope there is a date with an 18 wheeler awaiting you in the very near future – something ALL animal abusers deserve.
