A Sarasota man has been accused felony animal cruelty after allegedly using branch clippers to cut off five inches of his dog’s “rotting” tail. On Tuesday, Pablo Vega-Padron, 77, was arrested after animal cruelty officers responded to his home on a welfare check after a concerned neighbor called about the Chihuahua-terrier mix.
According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office press release, when officers arrived, the small dog named Randy’s tail and front legs had been wrapped in bandages. Padron told deputies the dog’s tail had become infected; animal welfare officers had ordered him to take his dog for emergency treatment at a veterinary hospital. Hours later, veterinarians from the Parkway Animal Hospital reported a five-inch section of the dog’s tail had been amputated by a do-it-yourself job using a branch clippers. Vega-Padron stated he didn’t have the money to take his dog to a veterinarian.
Surgeons had to remove Randy’s tail, however he has since been recovering and been adopted.
Vega-Padron, of 1616 Olympia Fields Street, was released on $1,500 bond.

What an ignorant man. He didn’t have the money to take his dog to a vet. to have his tail amputated and now he has to pay bond as well as whatever his legal penalties will be.
