Roxy’s tattered sweater showed she was once loved

Scavenging for food on the lonely streets in a rural Texas neighborhood, Roxy wore a pink tattered sweater. Sometime in her life, long ago, someone loved her. No one knows how long she had been homeless and suffering with a severe skin condition leaving her almost hairless and extremely itchy.

Roxy arrived at the shelter on the back of a truck. Whoever found her wrapped gauze around the dog’s neck to cover her open gashes and wounds. The Good Samaritan didn’t want the friendly dog on the streets, so he brought her to the shelter thinking she would be in a safe place and receive the veterinary help she so deserved. He didn’t know a sick pit bull would be swiftly scheduled for euthanasia.

Although Rescue Dogs Rock NYC knows nothing about Roxy’s past life, co-founder of the organization, Stacey Silverstein knew this dog deserved better.

“Roxy has many strikes against her now,” Stacey wrote on the rescue’s Facebook page. “She is a pit bull and she’s severely injured. If we don’t help, she will be taken off this pickup truck and brought in for euthanasia. Not fair! No No No. We cannot allow this.”

And on Friday morning, Roxy is on her way to the organization’s partner veterinarian. More updates to follow.
