In Marathon, New York, a reward of $16,500 was announced on Tuesday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for throwing two beagles out of a moving vehicle last week. New York State Police Homer stated local, state and national animal welfare organizations have joined in to offer the reward including:
- Animal Legal Defense Fund $10,000
- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals $5,000
- New York State Humane Association $1,000
- Private donation $500
According to the Broome County Humane Society, last Wednesday a tractor-trailer driver named Adam stopped to help the beagles after witnessing the dogs thrown from the rear of a dark blue Dodge Durango. He was not able to copy the license plate number. The truck driver wrapped the six-year-old badly injured dog in his sweatshirt and waited for authorities to arrive. A NYSP K-9 handler also stopped and bandaged the badly hurt beagle to stop the bleeding and splinted his badly broken leg.
The badly hurt dog, named Trooper had his leg amputated and is recuperating. Check out his latest video:

The other beagle named Adam (after the truck driver who rescued both dogs) is doing well.
