The RSPCA are investigating the discovery of a starved Staffy – so skinny all of her bones were visible through her skin. The neglected Staffordshire Bull terrier was rescued early Friday morning when a local resident, walking in the area of North Shields, spotted the dog unable to even stand or walk.

According to a press release by the RSPCA, Inspector Cathy Maddison described Ayma’s rescue.

“She was found by a member of the public who spotted her wrapped in an old towel. The kind member of the public scooped her up and we were contacted. He told me he was on his way to get ready for a job interview when he stopped what he was doing to help, which really shows the kindness of members of the public.”

Despite the cruelty inflicted on Ayma, the dog has been described as both “lovely and friendly.” She was being treated with intravenous fluids and small portions of food. When brought in Ayma weighed 16 pounds; half of what a dog her breed and size should weigh. All of her bones were visible through her skin and light coat.

Tragically, Ayma did not make it. The Sun reports veterinarians made the difficult decision to put Ayma to sleep on Sunday evening after her condition deteriorated. She was believed to be no more than four-years-old, and when found had been covered in fleas. How she must have suffered before she was rescued.

The RSPCA is now appealing for information to find out how she came to be so neglected and abandoned. If anyone recognizes her, or has any information which may help in the investigation, please contact the inspectorate appeal line at 0300 123 8018.

Rest in peace sweet Ayma. We are sorry humans let you down and deprived you of your life.

  1. The more i see of this evil thuggery, the angrier I get but it won’t ever bring one dog back. The only thing we can do with outrage at this is channel it for good, whether we can donate, volunteer, foster, walk, protest, petition, lobby governments, or whatever, we need to do it for the animals. They need us because without all of us they have no choice but to keep suffering at the hands of evildoers. Each of us can only do a certain amount, but it all adds up when we band together for the common good. Let’s all keep working to get these evildoers where they belong – off the streets away from the lives they can harm.
