No one knows where Brandy used to call home, but on Wednesday, someone abandoned her in a field with her newborn puppies in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. Hungry, cold and shivering in fear, the devoted mother couldn’t leave her puppies; Brandy was so desperate, but had accepted her fate and cradled her defenseless litter close to her stomach to keep them warm.

Had fate not stepped in, Brandy and her puppies would have perished. Rescue Dogs Rock NYC was asked to help.
“This is the Rio Grand Valley and this is the mentality there – dispose of your sick dog just when they need you the most,” wrote Rescue Dogs Rock NYC co-founder Stacey Silverstein on the organization’s social media page. “Dispose of your dog with her newborns to get rid of your problems.
The family was taken to an abandoned area and left to die on purpose; the middle of nowhere in the dirt. It’s freezing cold, and this mom is shivering but still trying to keep her babies warm. She is starving, but still nursing her babies.”
As the dog’s rescuer approached, Brandy looked up from caring for her babies and her eyes spoke to the woman; the dog begging for help to escape her living nightmare. The family was immediately transferred to the organization’s veterinarian partner where Brandy and her puppies are being treated.
“How could anyone with a conscience leave her there and just walk away and think she could possibly survive? It’s just so sad to think human beings could be so depraved,” Stacey added.
At this time, their prognosis is guarded, but they are getting the best of care. Updates to follow.
