On Sunday, a woman who heads up a Florida animal rescue made a shocking discovery in Brooksville. Mandy Celt, with Ziggy’s Legacy Rescue, wrote:

Just when I think I have seen it all. I was leaving the clinic today and there was something in the road. It moved I stopped. It was a puppy with two broken back legs. Pencils taped to them. I scooped her up and got her inside. She smelled like infection. I got the bandages off and when I saw what was under them I sat down held her and cried. The pencils broke and ate into her legs. Gaping wounds. Infected. She’s so thin.

Pencils were on broken legs

The puppy is at a veterinary clinic receiving pain medication and antibiotics. In a subsequent Facebook post, Mandy noted that the puppy is now known as Justice, and it appears that she has no feeling in her injured legs.

Reward offered for information

The rescue group is hoping to find out who is responsible for this heinous act of cruelty. Mandy wrote:

I’m offering a 500.00 cash reward to anyone who provides me with proof of who owned this puppy. I will not reveal your name. Someone must know something. She wastortured and left for dead and this has got to stop. She deserves justice and the sub human who did this to her needs to be punished. Please share. This has got to stop. These animals deserve better. Mandy. 352 584 2287.

  1. between children and animals there are so many evil people in this world. when God said we were to have dominion over the animals, I am thinking, this is Not what He meant.

  2. OMG!! Who did this to such an innocent puppy? What monsters we have in this country. Beyond cruelty and impossible to comprehend how anyone could do this? Hope this pup can somehow be saved and lead a happy life and his legs get better.

  3. Bye bye Pet Rescue no one likes the new format…A friend tells me because of the new format it causes a person to hack into my account. Good luck and best of luck. I have noticed no one has commented…what were you thinking?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • I am signed up on my Gmail account and just clicked on my subscription. Nothing has changed. Please send us a screenshot and let’s see if we can help you. Thanks for letting us know. Anyone else having a problem? Please let us know. Thanks

      • The only problem I have had is that I do not receive update e-mails when there are follow up comments on an article. I miss the back and forth of the old Examiner.

    • I think its more important to focus on helping the animals than the “new format” which seems fine to me. Whenever people introduce something new there will be teething problems. I’m sure it will be sorted out. How about you just be supportive instead. Just a thought.

      • Good reply, Terry. Keep the focus on what’s important–the animals. The rest is just trivial.

  4. Bless you for saving this precious pup….. look at that face!! How could anyone do this?!?!? No ONE could….only a sick, depraved monster could hurt this baby, or know she is hurt and do nothing but strap pencils to her broken bones!!! MONSTERS!!!!!!!!!!! Hey Karma…..GET THEM!

  5. There are some people who should be eliminated from this earth and the sewer sludge who did this to an innocent defenseless puppy is definitely is a prime candidate – Thank God Mandy Celt found him as there are so many selfish inconsiderate humans who would have ignored this puppy’s plight and left him to die. I hope he recovers and gets the safe loving home he obviously never had. Justice is what is needed – and not some slap on the wrist – I am so sick and tired of animal abusers literally walking away with little to no punishment.

    • Nancy–You totally nailed everything I feel about this, too. If the laws don’t change soon, to crack down on these psychopathic animal abusers, I predict that vigilante justice is going to take over, because people have had enough!
