On Wednesday, Kino stood on his back legs and pressed against his human’s body as if pleading with his eyes not to  be abandoned at the San Bernardino Animal Shelter in California. Shelter volunteer Lois Chisholm was there.

“This breaks my heart. He was begging his owner not to leave him there.”

Tragically an eyewitness in the lobby spotted Kino’s owner swatting the three-year-old terrier while pushing him away during the pet surrender process at the shelter. All Kino seemed to want was to go home and be loved. Despite the dog’s heartbreaking pleas, he was left behind.

#A51405 “My name is KINO and I am a neutered male, apricot Terrier mix. Shelter staff think I am about 3 years old. I was surrendered by my owner to the shelter on May 15, 2018.” This is my PetHarbor link: http://petharbor.com/pet.asp?uaid=SBCT.A514058

“I am at San Bernardino City Animal Shelter, 333 Chandler Place, San Bernardino, CA Telepone (909) 384-1304
They are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10AM to 5PM and are closed on Sunday and Monday.”

A Facebook page with additional information can be followed here. Share this dog’s plight with friends, family, approved rescue organizations and social media contacts. Surrendered pets have no required time limits and can be euthanized at the shelter’s discretion. When Kino was surrendered, he was so frightened he became “nippy” to the staff. And now he is being punished and is only available to rescue organizations.

  1. This beautiful dog is nippy because he is so scared and that is his first reaction especially when just seconds before he was with his scum of an owner (who should never be allowed to own another pet). His whole world came crumbling down and he is alone in a strange place with strange noises. Give him a few days and don’t make him rescue only unless you can be sure a rescue with take him immediately. There is someone on the facebook page who will adopt this dog if a rescue pulls. Hope she gets him.

  2. HEY KARMA…….FIND THIS OWNER AND SHOW HIM WHAT REAL PAIN AND ABANDONMENT FEELS LIKIE!!!!!!!!! How in the world do you walk away from your pets?? NO ONE, absolutely NO ONE can have any excuse I would find suitable….they should be considered as important as your kids!!!! I would love to know what excuse was given when this sweetheart was surrendered!

  3. Seriously!! No one need a degree in dog behaviour to know that him being “nippy” is so ti trauma. Disgusting to see no effort in helping him become feeling safe, just instantly label him instead! Shame on you!! SMFH

  4. OMG: both dogs in the photo (this precious little treasure and the chihuahua) need homes (& I wish I were in LA to pull them out)…… it’s so tragic and heartbreaking to think of these precious little treasures dying alone, afraid and worst of all, unloved in a shelter…….

I hope that they can be saved and rehomed into loving furever homes where they will be beloved family members……..

  5. I will always say that owners like this should have their names entered into a registry available to all rescues and shelters and breeders. They should never be allowed to own a pet a gain. They should never be allowed to adopt a pet ever again. And I am sick and tired of these damned so-called shelters labeling a dog as dangerous because the owner did not socialize it well enough to be happy about being abandoned.Shelters should be FORCED to hire qualified animal behaviorists to assess animals like this. This dog did NOTHING WRONG, but he may well pay the penalty for the cruelty of his owner and the ignorance of the staff at the damned animal execution squadron.

  6. How would you feel being dumped scared you would be nippy too but you guys are suppose to know what your doing so you punish him give me a break doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see why he was nippy he’s SCARED hope you get out of there little buddy soon

  7. OMG! I’d take that baby in a heartbeat if not in California. I am in Illinois. I have a terrier. They are fantastic. What I’d give to take this baby and I’d never ever swat that baby. The minute I saw this dog I said I’d swoop him up

  8. That rotten asshole needs to be led to prison and left there just like he did that poor baby. What an asshole.

  9. There are no unwanted dogs–I want them all. I so wish I could take each one. I can pray for them though, and I do. God bless and comfort them. I am heartsick reading this.

  10. It appears that this low life scumbag owner did not take good care of Kino. I wonder what this bastard would have thought if his mother would have done the same to him when he was a baby. Too bad it didn’t happen because this useless asshole owner deserves to be dead for being a shit owner and heartless. Hope he rots very soon in pain.
