A police sergeant for the city of Austin, Texas, is accused of beating his family’s dog with a long, red stick in front of a child. According to KXAN, the Austin PD sergeant is identified as 47-year-old Christopher Vetrano of Kyle.

The alleged beating caught on video

Vetrano allegedly beat the dog in front of a child in his backyard – a neighbor captured the cruel deed on video and also confronted the man about what he was doing. Court records indicate that Vetrano was screaming at the dog, “bite me, bite me!” and that when questioned about what was happening, he told the neighbor who confronted him that he was “beating” his dog. When the accused man met with the authorities, he told them that he was “disciplining” the dog because she was digging.

The seven-year-old Australian Kelpie was examined by a veterinarian 11 days after the beating – the vet noted that the dog was nervous, had a tense abdomen and a stiff leg. The veterinarian saw no signs of aggression.

Repercussions from the alleged beating

Vetrano, who has been with the department since 2002, was arrested for child endangerment and animal cruelty. He was booked into the Hays County Jail on July 27 and released on bond the next morning. No word on where the dog is at this time.

  1. It’s obvious who the aggressor is. How about instead of beating your dog for digging, you take the dog for long walks and get the fur-baby child or keep the dog indoors and only let the dog out when you can be out there to train him/her not to dig (Without the beating)

  2. AND THIS PUKE is an OFFICER OF THE LAW!!!! NO this is an Ethnic Abusing AssHole that Should have never been placed on a Law Enforcement Team that deals with any living thing… Hope he has NO WIFE OR CHILDREN as THEY TOO Probable WOULD SEE THE BIG “RED” STICK!! BASTARD!!!

  3. Oh yes, digging, such a “major offense.” Often, when dogs have no other form of entertainment, they will dig to relieve boredom, and to release pent up youthful energy. Letting them do that is the LEAST you can do.

Dogs (most of them, anyway) don’t watch TV, or have social media. Their social life is still old-fashioned “get out and about,” and that is very much stifled these days, compared to the freedom they had, even in the 1950’s and 60’s when I was young.

If you just want a dog to put in the backyard, and expect him or her to be as ‘behaved’ as a statue, you shouldn’t have one.

  4. Even police are not immune to doing violent things against their so called family member/dog. I bet his family is so angry at him for what he did and hope whatever punishment he receives will be a wake up call for someone who is suppose to protect the innocent.

  5. Is he insane!!! Must lose job, be fully prosecuted and checked thoroughly for severe mental illness! In any case–he deserves a serious beating somewhere along the way! I hope and pray the dog will be okay and NEVER EVER returned to this lunatic!

  6. Good grief, dogs dig you idiot. No Excuse to beat the poor animal. I’d like to beat him & see how he feels. Fire his ass.

  7. Another useless waste of space who wears a uniform and thinks he is above the law – Christopher Vetrano needs a major dose of his own medicine – hopefully, since this is Texas and violence is out of control – I do hope there is a prison sentence in this maggot’s near future, but that is doubtful – so if that is not to be, may there be a fatal encounter with a semi just waiting to splatter his filthy ass all over a Texas highway. That I will celebrate.
