A police officer with the Winston Salem Police Department is facing two counts of felony animal cruelty following his alleged attack on a small dog this week. According to multiple sources, the accused man, identified as 47-year-old Richard Workman of Clemmons, allegedly hit the dog with a basketball, shook it and then hurled the dog across the garage onto a concrete slab.

On Wednesday, a witness captured the alleged abuse on video and turned it over to the authorities in Davidson County, reported the Journal Now. The dog at the heart of the alleged abuse was removed from Workman’s home and taken to a veterinarian where an exam revealed that there was no severe injuries. The dog is currently being held in a foster home.

Workman was arrested on May 10 – he is scheduled to appear in court on July 5.

  1. Richard Workman needs to become an x-policeman – his cruelty to a small defenseless animals proved he is incapable of handling any situation where is anger takes over – to treat a little dog so cruelly shows what he is capable of and in no way does this reflect positively on the Winston Salem Police Department. There is no blue wall that can cover this up since it is on video and all his abusive behavior is seen. He should also be arrested and dumped in with regular inmates who will give him exactly what he deserves – we know how much criminals like cops – he deserves ALL the abuse he dealt to a tiny dog come back at him.

  2. Let’s hope they remove him from their police force and charge him with animal abuse and serve jail time. What a scum and this is the type of sub human that gives good police officers a bad name.
