A Louisville police officer who recently rescued a badly neglected puppy from a man’s car has decided to make the pup a permanent part of his life. According to WLKY News, Officer Jeff Emerich first encountered the seven-week-old puppy during a traffic stop on March 7.

After pulling over 24-year-old Dezmond Jones, Officer Emerich found one dead puppy, and another puppy, cold, covered in urine, and clinging to life, inside of Jones’ vehicle, reported WAVE 3 News.

The puppy, since named Audrey, will no longer be subjected to a life of neglect. Officer Emerich commented on his desire to make the pup’s future the best it can be:

“It’s heartbreaking. It’s seven-weeks old. It really knows nothing about the world, and that was kind of the first experience it had. Dogs don’t deserve that. They deserve a really wonderful life, and I’m hoping I could give it to her, for sure.”

Jones has since pleaded guilty to animal cruelty and he has been ordered to not own, or be around, animals for the next two years.

Did you know that if you want to get updates from a Facebook page, you have to do more than just “like” it? To get recent postings in your Facebook feed, you must also hover your mouse over the word “following” and then click “see first” from the drop-down menu. You may want to check back with your favorite pages on occasion because Facebook often changes your settings, no longer having your favorites among those to “see first.”

  1. TWO YEARS??? ARE YOU SERIOUS?? One puppy DEAD and the other clinging to life and he gets TWO YEARS that he can not own another dog?
This will never change as long as the courts just slap their hand and send them out!

  2. May God bless Officer Jeff Emerich for going above and beyond for this precious puppy. I hope he and puppy Audrey have many happy years together.

  3. That’s ALL the “punishment/sentence” was – TWO YEAR OF NO OPPORTUNITY TO KILL ANOTHER COMPANION?
What kind of BULLSH*T is that???
I feel/fear for all the animals in Louisiana…
    KUDOS to this kind officer!

  4. Sentences for the death and possible death of another pup should equate to a death sentence of a human,no less. This “upstanding” scum should be in jail for life, not 2 years of which he will be out sooner. Laws must be changed now, not years from now

  5. Yes !!!! two years Indeed!!! They would have probably given this Putrid Buzzard Turd 4 years for Rape and Murder!!! so much for the Justice System in Louisville !!! Audrey is so lucky for HER MAN IN BLUE to RESCUE HER!!!

  6. Thank you Officer Emerich. The abuser needs to be away from animals more than two years. A lifetime is a good length of time.
