A disturbing video has been circulating over social media showing a South Africa police van intentionally running over a sleeping dog and not making any attempts to avoid hitting the pet. Station commander brigadier Sonjani from the Elsies River Police Station is investigating if the incident involved his officers.
“We’re looking into the matter, and still trying to find out if this is an officer from our station. The registration is not clear in the video. We may need to track down the original source or building where this video was shot from to get more detail,” Sonjani told media reporters.
According to News24, there has been a massive public outcry after the video clearly showed the incident occurring on Neptune Street in Elsies River, South Africa. Belinda Abraham, a spokesperson for the SPCA described what happened.
“The dog was taken to the Animal Anti-cruelty League (AACL) in Epping. I don’t know what injuries the animal suffered at the hands of these SAPS members, but the vet ordered x-rays.”
The case is now under investigation which includes violations for causing harm to an animal and by not seeking help for the animal’s injuries. The condition of the dog has not been made public.
