A Springfield, Missouri judge ordered a poacher who illegally killed hundreds of deer to watch the movie “Bambi” repeatedly while in jail. David Berry Jr. was sentenced to spend a year in jail and watch the movie at least once a month.
For anyone who doesn’t remember the heartbreaking animated 1942 Disney movie, a hunter shot Bambi’s mother when he was just a fawn. Berry was ordered to watch the movie the first time on or before December 23.
According to AbcNews, Berry Jr., 29, killed the largest number of illegal deer in the state’s history. Hundreds of deer were killed within three years and sold as trophies – their heads were taken, and their bodies left to rot.
Three of Berry Jr.’s relatives and another poacher were also convicted and ordered to pay $51,000 in fines and court costs.
In addition to illegal poaching, the defendant was also sentenced to 120 days in jail in Barton County for a firearms probation violation.
