A dog in Romulus, Michigan, was fatally wounded while defending his family from a gunman. According to WXYZ News, a man with a gun jumped over the fence of Kyle Brown’s yard and encountered two-year-old Petey, his pit bull.
The horrible situation
The horrible situation happened last Friday following a botched carjacking. The armed suspect found himself face to face with the protective pit bull – Brown told the news agency:
“As soon as I made eye to eye contact with him, I could tell by the look in his eyes and by his intent, he knew what he was doing, and it was an opportunity.”
As soon as Petey engaged the man, he was shot in the face – despite the terrible injury, the pit bull managed to chase the man out of his yard. The armed man eventually jumped back into Brown’s yard and entered his home; he barricaded himself inside with a child.
The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, ultimately gave himself up and the child was released unharmed. Petey was not as fortunate – the faithful dog who tried to protect his family was so badly injured that he had to be put down. His owner said, “He not only saved my life but he saved our lives.”
Rest in peace Petey.
