On Tuesday morning, a pet carrier became a one-year-old Chihuahua’s coffin after she was found on the property of a Brockton animal shelter. The manager of Animal Protection Center, Joyce Caranci found the female puppy “unconscious and foaming at the mouth.” Temperatures outside had been in the 80s just after 8:00 a.m. when the dog was discovered.

According to CbsBoston, Caranci rushed the dog to the Lloyd Animal Medical Center in Stoughton using an ice pack to help cool her body, but the pup died on the way.

“When I found her, she was already unconscious and foaming at the mouth, but she was breathing faintly and I felt a heartbeat… When I put my hand in the crate, it was hot. Not warm, dog hot. But hot, I don’t want to touch it hot,” stated Caranci.

The dog’s temperature registered at 110 degrees – nine degrees higher than a normal dog’s temperature. She weighed ten pounds, was brown and white and had no identification of microchip. The MSPCA  described the puppy’s coffin as a tan and gray plastic pet carrier with no identification. On the organization’s Facebook page the cause of the pup’s death was noted below her heartbreaking photos:

Someone abandoned a one-year-old female Chihuahua in a carrier outside the Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusettsyesterday morning, and the dog tragically died of heat stroke.”

It has been speculated the owner may have intended to surrender the dog to the shelter.  Why someone couldn’t wait to make sure the dog was safe remains a mystery.  The shelter does not have surveillance cameras.

A $1,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible. Anyone with information can call 800-628-5808. Animal cruelty is a felony in Massachusetts and punishable by a maximum of seven years in prison and a fine up to $5,000.

Rest in peace little one.

  1. This is a TOTALLY UNCESSARY DEATH : Such a young dog and would have made a very nice pet for a family or elderly person… What THE HELL IS WITH OUR SOCIETY AT LARGE ANYMORE .. WE as a leading Nation in the World are fast losing ETHICS, MORAL VALUES , & HUMANITY… It would have take all of a couple of minutes to take this little dog inside the shelter… What Bastards

  2. I wouldn’t imagine that kind of carrier is very conducive for air circulation to begin with. Why people can’t just wait and walk through the doors of the shelter to dump their unwanted pets is beyond my comprehension. Yes you are “dumping” your pet no matter what excuse you are using have a backbone and do it the RIGHT way! This poor dog died a horrible death needlessly.

  3. This is beyond cruel. One of my pups was left in a cage that is referred to as an “outdoor drop box” because someone didn’t want her. She was abandon in February in the cold so it wasn’t as bad as the heat. But this is disgusting. If I found the savage maggot that did this, I’d need bail money.

  4. RIP precious little treasure……. Your life was stolen from you….. You didn’t deserve to be murdered…… please look for MacKitty in Heaven….. you will be welcome to join his group of snuggle buddies…….. so sorry that you were failed so horribly by humans……..

That POS who murdered you will burn in Hell forever for his cruelty……. let’s hope he gets there ASAP after suffering a terrible death in pain, alone, afraid and unloved…….

  5. I hope they find the so called owners and do the same to them. What cowards not wanting to face anyone when they dump their year old small dog. Admit you made and error, pay whatever fees you need to pay but at least this beautiful pup would have been given the chance of a real home with people who cared. You took that away from this dog because you are cowardly and afraid someone will call you out for doing this. Hope you know how many animal lovers want the same kind of punishment/death sentence you gave this dog. RIP little one, you were loved if only for a short time.

  6. RIP little one, who had some terrorizing final hours on this earth by the monster who owned you and abandoned you. You can run free now, never to be hot, hungry or thirsty ever again.
PLEASE FIND THE POS that did this!!! No excuse should be acceptable!

  7. I have a couple of problems with this post – you would think that since animals are dropped outside shelters on a regular basis that there would be surveillance cameras installed – don’t understand why this apparently was not a top priority. This poor dog died needlessly because some hunk of human trash was too cheap to pay a surrender fee. This hunk of maggot shit needs to be hogtied and dumped in a landfill with the rest of the trash.
