For months Duke has been barely surviving on the streets of South Texas. Paralyzed and dragging his back legs along the hard concrete pavement, Duke scavenged for scrapes just to thwart off his starvation and hunger. Never mind that his back paws had deep scrapes and were raw and infected from dragging his legs around day after day. Never mind that pedestrians passing by too often ignored him as if his life was of no value. Quite the opposite – Duke wanted to live; the dog’s strong will to survive seemed to be unwavering.
This is the original plea for help as seen from the eyes of a volunteer:
“He has been dragging his useless body for months. People have fed him, people have watched him, people have walked away from him. By himself during the rain, by himself during the cold unable to find shelter, unable to reach food. Whoever stole his use of his legs left him vulnerable. He now has developed severe infections and injuries from dragging his body and is severely emaciated…”

Rescue Dogs Rock NYC acted on the videos and the information sent to them early Sunday morning. Stacey Silverstein, co founder of the rescue organization, posted on their Facebook page Duke’s story of despair, loneliness and pure desperation; asking animal advocates for help saving this dog.
“We can only assume he was violently hit by a car crushing his back legs and left of dead at some point months ago. Searching for help – while people passed him by ignoring him,” Stacey wrote. “It’s a miracle he has survived this long on the cold hearted streets.”
The organization will now grant Duke the chance of a better life and have agreed to help providing him with the medical care he needs and a new life inside of a home with caring humans.
“Helping Duke is a huge commitment and financial undertaking,” Stacey posted. “This is life or death for this deserving dog. He will need wheels and complete rehabilitation of his back end.”

This is so outrageous that human beings could be so heartless as to walk away without getting him the help he really needed. SHAME ON YOU WHO WALKED PASSED OR IGNORED THIS BEAUTIFUL BABY. Thank you to this precious organization. Their caring hearts are an inspiration.
What the hell with the “people” of South Texas? Blows my mind.
Donated
He’s got a strong will to live, he will make it! Thanks RRRNYC!

ANYONE who could walk past this poor dog is an absolute piece of shit as far as I am concerned – may they end up like Duke – in desperate need of help and no one comes to their aid. And as par for the course, if not for Rescue Dogs Rock NYC Duke would have died in the streets of the miserable state of Texas. What do they raise there? It seems this state has the most uncaring, cruelest humans in the country. I hope Duke recovers as best he can – he deserves to be well fed, well cared for and happy.
Thank you for rescuing him. I cannot believe people just walked by and didn’t help him sooner. I hope he finds a loving home forever.
I hope thé same !!! He rally deserves a careful Home ????????????????
Thank you for rescuing this poor pup. It’s so shameful how people can ignore a badly injured dog. If it wasn’t for RDR this dog would have died. RDR you’re the best, I wish more rescues would display such selflessness and compassion. Will donate.
BREAKS MY HEART HOW ANYONE CAN PASS BY, AND NOT TAKE HIM HOME OR TO THE VET. PLEASE DONATE AND GIVE THIS DOG A CHANCE!
