In Houston, Texas, the owner who left their puppy chained up with no water or shelter to die in the backyard has been charged with animal cruelty. On Monday, the Justice for Rocko, left to die by heatstroke Facebook page posted the results of the necropsy performed on the dog:

“Cruelty charges have been filed against the owner of Rocko, the dog who died tied up in his backyard in the Acres Homes area. Necropsy results confirm Rocko died of heat exhaustion,” stated KhouNews.

Less than a week ago, a picture of the dog lying lifeless in the backyard of a home was posted to social media and shared hundreds of times. When animal rescuer  Robert Acuna saw the photo and the post, he decided to do some investigation on his own and went to the home to check if anything could be done to help the dog, but by the time he arrived the dog named Rocko had died.

Harris County Constable Precinct 1’s Animal Cruelty Unit launched an investigation. According to the dog’s owner, Rocko had been in good health, but the lack of water, shelter and a too short leash caused the dog to die of heat stroke. Texas Penal Code calls for the following:

  • A dog can be tied up but must be on a rope or chain at least 10 feet in length or five times the length of the dog.
  • The animal must have access to food, water, shelter and veterinary care.

The names of Rocko’s owners have not been released. Tragically, it doesn’t matter how many times news is shared of dogs dying from the heat when left in parked cars or owners leaving their dogs outside in the 95 degree humidity heat with no water or shelter, innocent pets still suffer and die.

Rest in peace Rocko, and we hope you get some justice.

  1. After taking the photos and videos of animal abuse and then posting on facebook page, why are you stopping there? Why didn’t the person who witnessed this dog in stress or dying, call the authorities? It took for this post to be shared a few times before someone actually went to help the dog. Of course it was too late. this owner is a moron!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. WHY are these worthless excuse of owners being protected?!?!? THEY MURDERED, brutally and callously, THEIR PET!!
Lock them up, fine them and put their horrible names on a National Registry so they may never own or live in a house with a pet!!!

  3. WHY are the WORTHLESS owners being protected? Release their names or at least their addresses. They deserve NO PROTECTION!! Lock them up, fine them, and put their names on a National Registry so they may never own or live in the same home as a pet!

  4. Why are these monster’s names being “withheld?” Why shouldn’t they be outed? I hope they are forced to pay a big fat fine and serve at least a couple years in the free hotel.

  5. Lock this owner up and never release them from jail. If this were a person who was left outside confined in a chair with no water or shade and died, this person would be arrested immediately for murder. This is no different and our criminal system needs to reflect the seriousness of crimes like this rather than say, it is only a dog.

  6. Oh my God, POS deserves the exact same treatment. When will these judges who decide these monsters penalty slam the book at them. There is no good excuse for such negligence. Why, why does a person so cruel, so stupid have a dog? I’m pissed and I want to hear that this cruel fool has been sentenced to prison, a huge fine and banned from ever owning another animal!
RIP poor puppy, fly free from pain

  7. Take the scumbag out to a remote spot with no shade, stake him/her down naked, preferably on an anthill, and leave this low-life for say, about a week. If he/she survives, make it two weeks.

  8. That is because TEXASS is full of Narcissistic, Self-Centered, ALL ABOUT ME, I am ABOVE THE LAW, Who the HELL DO YOU THINK YOU are PEOPLE that ARE THE ONLY FKIN IMPORTANT MORONIC ASSHOLE in THE WORLD. SO YOU DON”T HAVE ONE KIND and COMPASSIONATE , or THOUGHTFUL Word or THOUGHT about ANYTHING BUT YOU & YOURSELF!!! I would be ASHAMED TO EVEN say I came for TEXASS!!! JUST look at the NUMBER”S of COMPANION ANIMALS STARVED, TORTURED, MAIMED IN ANGER in a WEEK across your WORTHLESS STATE!!! SHAME ON Each and Every ONE of YOU–BUGGER”S!!!

  9. Don’t hide this bastard’s name – let them feel the full thrust of people’s ire – they just left this poor dog out to die because they were too lazy, too stupid or too uncaring to bother – he depended on them for his needs, and they just ignored him. And, this being Texas the subhuman is being protected and Rocko was treated like a disposable object – sure, take pictures of Rocko suffering and DO NOTHING – so Texas.
