In Lexington, North Carolina, an eight-year-old beagle named Jasper knew something was wrong on Monday afternoon and tried to hide behind his owner’s legs as the man prepared to leave his dog at a crowded animal kill shelter. How could anyone explain to Jasper that his owner filled out the “surrender a dog” paperwork; even after reading the sign on the front door of the Davidson County Animal Shelter:

“The shelter is full and owner surrenders can be humanely euthanized at any time.”

Still, Jasper’s owner stated he hoped the shelter volunteers could find a rescue organization for their pup although they gave no reason why their dog was being surrendered. A volunteer at the shelter posted the following heartbreaking news – that is if Jasper could speak, read or write for himself:

“This post is not to bash my Daddy, but to find me a proper home. I got nothing left – Daddy took my collar, leash and name tag so him and mom would have something to remember me by. Sign on front door says full and that owner surrenders can be put down at any time so my people think that may be my fate. Will you share and help me find a rescue?”

And when his family walked out of the building, Jasper could not believe they left him there alone. He wanted so badly to follow.

Jasper is described as eight-years-old, neutered and up-to-date on his vaccinations. He is a bit shy, and it is suggested he not be in a family with young children.

Fortunately, according to volunteer Donna Grooms, Jasper is one of the lucky ones. This boy is being picked up in the morning by a rescue organization. Sharing saves lives.

  2. WE NEED A NATIONAL REGISTRY!!! If you surrender your pet….Your name goes on the registry and YOU DO NOT GET ANOTHER ONE!!! You are a heartless, soulless monster who does not deserve a loving animal in your life!!

  3. I’m very happy for Jasper that he’s going to rescue. His ‘daddy’ is a real bastard who deserves whatever evil comes his way from now on.

  4. Why do you not show the abandoner’s face, give his name, tell us what his excuse was? Why protect this irresponsible, heartless person?

  5. OMG !!!!!! The Relief I felt when I got down to the Bottom of this STORY!!!! JASPER LOOKED TOTALLY BEWILDERED !!!! His family must want to hock his color and leash for a pack of smokes!!! Bastard They Both ARE!!!

  6. You are a fucking piece of shit worthless fucking no good person to leave your eight-year-old dog at a kill shelter I hope something bad happens to you you fucking dirt bag

  7. I hope your kids dump you the way you did Jaspet. You are sub-human and hope karma bites you hard. Shame on you Pets are NOT disposable !!!

  8. They took his collar, leash and name tag for something to remember him by? What a bunch of BS. What was their reason for leaving this precious pup behind? I’m glad he is going to a rescue, I’m sure someone will want this poor little boy. Prayers he finds a home who will love him for the rest of his days. I hope the ones who dumped him, never have a moments peace remembering what they did to him.

  9. WTF is wrong with people??? Pets are for life….. I could never send one of my precious treasures to a kill shelter…… My furbabies are my family members and no way do they leave our home (only if they pass away)……
Glad this little guy is being rescued!!!

  10. I am so sick and tired of people who just treat a loyal and loving animal like a piece of trash and dump them in high kill shelters – moving, no time, having a baby, and all the other stupid and fake reasons infuriate me. This poor dog is eight years old and totally confused as to why he is no longer with the family he has known and loved. An eight year old dog has a minimal chance of being adopted yet these soulless losers just walk out and go on as if they just brought back an old piece of furniture. Disgusting!

  11. That picture of the dog looking at his pos owner walk out the door broke my heart. Those people have no soul and are truly heartless. They don’t deserve that dog or another one. They probably got tired of him because he got old. Are they going to do that to another dog? They should not be allowed to get another one. They are assholes for what they have done
