At the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center in California, the owner of a tiny Chihuahua held him in her arms one last time before surrendering him as a “stray.” The woman dumping the dog, on Thursday afternoon, told several volunteers the dog’s name was Canelo; some people will do anything just to save a buck.

“His name is Canelo; his owner told us she was surrendering him because he goes outside. She told myself and two volunteers his name and then dumped him calling him a stray so she didn’t have to pay the fees,” stated rescue volunteer Sal Valdepena.

As the little dog was placed in a surrender cage, his eyes focused on his owner who didn’t turn around to even say goodbye.

“It’s truly the most heartbreaking act of cruelty,” Sal continued. “He loved his family only to be dumped so terrified with his little tail tucked the entire time. He watched his family walk away from him once they locked him in a cage. He did NOTHING wrong…in fact all he did was love the wrong people.”

  1. In a way this dog is better off without an owner like this who would abandon a 4 yr. old chi. Now he has to be networked and get adopted or fostered by real caring people, not just someone who wants a dog and then changes their mind.Hope the same is done to this family and they are abandoned at a time when they need help the most.

  2. How mean can people be not even to look back I feel so bad for for this dog it’s heartbreaking I have nothing but I’ll will towards the owner and feel nothing but love for this little guy he looks so scared and heart broken I hope someone has room in their heart for this little guy I pray he finds a loving home soon

  3. Hopefully networking will bring this little guy to Spokane Animal for adoption. My ChiX is from Baldwin originally so this little guy is more special to me. Little Guy is my suggestion for name.

  4. There are some people who have NO conscience, no morals, no humanity and no heart – this female bottom feeder is one of them – a selfish bitch whose only concern was for the few bucks she saved by lying to staff saying this tiny being was a stray – I have no problem wishing her a date with an 18 wheeler ASAP – may her useless butt be splattered all over the highway – she deserves no less for her cruelty.
