Owner reclaimed him.

For nine years, Opus lived with his family, but on Sunday every dog’s worst nightmare became reality. Opus was surrendered to the Carson Animal Shelter because his family is expecting a baby. He knew something was happening, but how to explain to a loyal friend he is no longer wanted? Despite what his eyes perceived when his owner patted him on the head, swapped out his leash and collar for a rope and was being led away, Opus refused give up those last shreds of hope.

“You can see his heart break with confusion as he tries desperately to get back to his dad and stop what’s happening,” a volunteer videoing the sad situation posted on Saving Carson Shelter Dogs Facebook.

Watch this senior’s video as he is led away by the officer. His owner pats Opus on the head, and then he is gone.

  1. Any family that gives up their animal because they are having a baby are a bunch of sick minded assholes. It is a shame the animal is no longer their baby. Did should have thought about it when their mother had another child maybe they should have been thrown in the trash because they couldn’t take care of two kids. These piss ass owners make me sick and hope they slowly rot.

  2. omg this video was so hard to watch and crying right now. I bet you anything that was a load of bullshit because the family is expecting a baby that was just a bloody excuse. as they did not want him anymore.
I hope that OPUS will find another loving owner very soon

  3. Every day I watch these heartbreaking animal being betrayed and abused by people, and every day it gets more and more heartbreaking and frustrating. I just want to scream in there face “HOW COULD YOU”” The poor betrayed dog. People who surrender an animal like this should NEVER N-E-V-E-R !!!!!! be allowed to own another pet., Shame on them and their rottenness!

  4. That is just horrible!!! The owner needs to be thrown in that cage and left there. That innocent baby should have been part of the family with the baby. Now he’s gonna die because the asshole is ers are IDIOTS!!!!

  5. WHY DID THEY GET THIS DOG IN THE FIRST PLACE!! I hate this. These damn jerks can just walk away while their family member is confused and scared. HOW CAN YOU DO THAT TO YOUR DOG?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  6. I don’t understand, Opus is good with kids do why give him up cuz they are having a baby? Things csn be so easily solved—-since he is a house dog, build him a kennel so he is still “inside” , teach him about the baby so he’ll know the baby is his family too! Why just throw him to the wolves???? Poor excuse people!

  7. This breaks my heart! So what if they were having a baby? Adopting an animal is FOR LIFE, not just as long as its convenient! Good Grief this boils my blood!

  8. These things are scum and deserve to have the same done to them if they are having a baby, which may or may not be true. Looks like a wonderful dog and to specify indoor means he was a real part of the family until something happened to their feels. How do you have a dog like this and just give him us so easily? I know dogs can be annoying, underfoot, etc., all the negative stuff people give, but this dog I am sure, provided them with love and affection and I have to believe they did too. Hope Opus finds a loving family that will treat him like a king.

  9. This sweet beautiful Opus deserves a loving caring home ASAP! Will donate soon! I pray that “karma” is SWIFT and MERCILESS on this sick heartless bastard!

    • It looks like there “is” a facebook page for them. ( Carson Animal Care Center. Gardena, California ) is what it’s under there. I think you could go to their page .. I believe it has a link to their site.

  10. This family should be totally ashamed of themselves all this dog did is love them and you dump this poor dog karma will catch up to you people who dump their dogs have no souls

  11. Absolutely disgusting unfortunately these things happened way too much everyday and every shelter in every city and every state all around America this one just happened to be caught on tape I hope nothing but that stuff for people who do these things

  12. Shared with Sunny Saints Rescue. Opus would be welcome here if nobody else steps up! We had a Saint some years ago and he was the sweetest, most loyal dog. We’ve fostered with Sunny Daints before, but we are not in your area. I hope he’s pulled soon and finds his TRUE forever family!

  13. What a lame ass excuse. They didn’t even give him a chance. I hope their friends & family & the public shame them to no end. When people surrender their pet for no justifiable reason, they should be band from ever owning one again.
This infuriates me & breaks my heart. I hope KARMA gets them 1000 times over

    • Oh ya, I adopted a 8 week old Shepard/Collie puppy the day before my 2nd child was born & 2yrs later had another baby & did NOT get rid of my dog, I kept her in my family til she took her last breath @ 12yrs. She was the kids best friend & was their protector. RIP my sweet Daphne

  14. Optus. I pray you are adopted by a loving caring and compassionate beloved family. And the bastards, heartless and callous, surrendering such a precious, intelligent and trusting boy Optus to the Carson Animal Shelter because they were having a baby are an absolute disgrace and heartless bastards. I pray KARMA gets you.
