Just a week-and-a-half-ago, Rico was surrendered to a South Carolina emergency veterinarian after someone stepped on him. At the time, six-week-old Rico was given a 50/50 chance of survival. Three days later, the one pound puppy’s chances of survival seemed to increase slightly.

Rescue Dogs Rock NYC co-founder, Jackie O’Sullivan posted the puppy’s latest update on Tuesday after he underwent an MRI at the South Carolina emergency veterinary hospital where he remains under 24/7 care.

“… He had his MRI yesterday at our SC specialty ER vet & the findings were really neither good or bad. No fractures or compressions were found which is good, but swelling & bleeding on the brain were found. His entire medical team wishes he was doing better at this juncture & was more alert & up & around by now. That said, he has made small improvements & is a little fighter who did suffer a traumatic brain injury, so we have decided to give him more time in the hopes that he will come out of this & be able to have a good quality of life.”

  1. Rico looks like a Little Dachshund with the markings, legs and feet … They are really strong willed and will make every effort to stay alive and he is being given that Chance… I would welcome him out here in the Western Part of The USA if he is able to overcome this horrific accident… Rescue Dogs Rock N.Y. has Hearts of Pure Gold!!!

  2. Hang in there RICO and fight to survive. I am praying for you. I pray you live a long and happy life with a beloved family who will show you love, compassion and all that comes to such a beloved doggy like you. Bless you RICO.

  3. I’m praying for that tiny angel Rico to pull through this and have a beautiful life. Poor dogs everywhere, having to rely on people’s kindness and carefulness, always. And with way too many people being cruel and careless (one would be too many). Dog breeders and anyone else who deliberately bring dogs into this world have got to be STOPPED. No one needs even one dog breeder out there…they are a particularly vile scourge.

  4. Keeping Rico in my Thoughts and Prayers that he will survive, heal coimpletely and thrive should that he can enjoy a wonderful life with his ideal furever family.

  5. Foster Mom Did little Rico make it or not due to the serious brain injury he sustained by his owner who stepped on him. Was the owner of little Rico taken in for questioning regarding why they would cause such an abusive act against an innocent baby puppy causing him serious harm. Did little Rico make it???. Please let us know. Thank you Foster Mom
