Humane Rescue Alliance Seizes Illegal Caiman, 12 dogs, from Suspected Dog-Fighting Operation in SE DC

After receiving an anonymous tip of a large reptile animal living in a DC residence, the Humane Rescue Alliance, in partnership with DC Health, worked with the DC Office of the Attorney General to obtain a search warrant. HRA’s Field Services Division, with support from the Washington Metropolitan Police Dept., executed the search warrant Wednesday afternoon, seizing an illegal 5-foot caiman from the premises in SE DC. The caiman was being housed illegally, in inhumane conditions, in the basement of the residence. During the execution of the search warrant, HRA officers observed conditions and paraphernalia associated with organized dog fighting. A second search warrant was issued by a Superior Court Judge Thursday morning. HRA Humane Law Enforcement officers executed the second search warrant Thursday, in which six adult dogs, and six puppies were recovered from the address. The dogs showed signs and scars consistent with dog fighting as well as chronic neglect due to unsanitary living conditions. “The Humane Rescue Alliance is committed to eradicating the sadistic sport of dogfighting in the District and will root out any individual who participates in this cruel activity,” said Chris Schindler, HRA’s Vice President of Field Services. “I am proud of our dedicated team of officers who thoroughly investigated this case which resulted in rescuing 12 dogs from harm’s way.” After finishing the execution of the search warrant, all 12 dogs were immediately transported to an undisclosed location for veterinary care. The caiman was transported to HRA’s New York Avenue facility Wednesday for assessment and continued care. The case remains under investigation by HRA’s Humane Law Enforcement division. All of the dogs have been transported to an undisclosed location for veterinary care. The caiman, which was being kept illegally, has been taken to HRA’s New York Avenue facility for assessment and care. Caiman’s are reptiles and belong to the same family as alligators.

In a followup report by WjlaNews, neighbors state people would pay to watch the caiman fight the dogs in a “bloody fight” inside of the home. Fighting paraphernalia has also been seized.  The case remains under investigation by HRA’s Humane Law Enforcement division.

Oh, please find those who are the ones who did this to these dogs and pups be made to fight the caiman, but their arms must be tied behind their backs. Justice for the dogs who lost their lives fighting this caiman and end this dog fighting ring forever. People need to speak up about their neighbors doing this in their homes or basements. Against the law and they need to be in jail forever. Thanks for saving the dogs and pups.

Were there any of these maggot puke dogfighters arrested?? This disgusting practice needs to be held to the highest degree of animal abuse and those participating punished severely for their cruelty – like 25+ years in prison instead of the paltry slap on the wrist sentences given out by authorities. These poor animals are treated like criminals and usually killed because they are considered dangerous – the ONLY dangerous ones here are human – dogfighters are dirtbags who deserve no consideration whatsoever, yet they are treated so lightly while the dogs are treated like serial killers – something is very wrong with this and needs to be changed.

So refreshing to see law enforcement ACTUALLY doing their job and protecting animals, instead of claiming their vicious and just shooting them. Those OTHER communities, like so many parishes in Louisiana, would benefit themselves to observe and learn from these guys. Louisiana just had a major slaughter go down and while they’re standing around trying to figure out how they can get a blow job from an innocent victim they pull over for a minor traffic offense, they ought to be looking at the fact the MOST OF THEIR SPINELESS JUDGES LET VIOLENT OFFENDERS OFF OF MOST CHARGES ON A DAILY BASIS. You REAP what you SOW, freaking sin city, you need another Katrina, but one that actually TAKES THE ENTIRE SOUTH coast of Louisiana OUT of existence, because you DIDN’T learn from the warning you were sent. Don’t trash me for WHAT YOU have ALLOWED to happen in YOUR slimy, scum ridden state. YOU allow corrupt law enforcement and judges to continue, NOT me!
