There will be no jail time for an Ogden man who shot out his neighbor dog’s eye. According to KUTV News,  Kim Tibbetts won’t spend any time behind bars, but will instead serve 80 hours of community service during his 24 months of probation.

The crime

Tibbetts used a B.B. gun to shoot at his neighbor’s Belgian Malinois, Neiko; the dog lost one of his eyes as a result. Neiko’s owners, Tanya Scott and her son Parris, believe that the man had been shooting at their dog for nine months based on a change in his personality.

The judge

It was Judge Hyde who opted to sentence the shooter to probation rather than jail time. The Scott family is disappointed in his decision and they feel like he didn’t hear their pleas. The family had hoped to see Tibbetts behind bars on weekends only for nine months – the same period of time which they believe their dog was being abused.

In addition to probation, Tibbetts has been ordered to pay restitution for Neiko’s veterinary bills.

What are your thoughts?

What are your thoughts about the judge’s decision to give Tibbetts probation only? Does the sentence send a strong enough message about animal cruelty?

  1. I think the JUDGE Doesn’t Care MUCH for Companion Animal’s !!! The Man who did this Horrific Deed :: deserves to be mistaken for a Rattler and disposed of and the rattles removed from his scrotum !!

  2. They should also take every gun away from the scum and never give him an opportunity to harm another animal. Paying for the vet bill is good and it depends on what type of community service he has to do. Please let us know what that involves.

  3. It’s Utah. Figures. It’s also disgusting that they had to wait until their dog was blinded in one eye before they could take him to court, only to have the court fail them!

It’s always a good idea to get cameras for outside if possible, and to hide them in such a way (if you can) to catch a fiend like this in the act. Maybe then the judge would have done his job. Doubtful, but you never know.

  4. That the problem with this country
Give people a slap on the hands for shooting dogs in the eye and other cruelty things
I guess the judge don’t own any animals and don’t care with a sentence like that
What a bad decision and a family pup lost his eye for some asshole

  5. The whole justice (non) is horrible and non existent for animals and victims. I believe eye for an eye justice. The asses that abuse animals have to feel the same pain and death that they cause. Nothing else will work to stop this horrible abuse of animals and human victims that deserve justice. Another innocent animal has suffered at the hands of another worthless evil human….

  6. Just be patient Judge Hyde, you will see him again. You slapped him on the wrist for this atrocity, he will certainly do it again. You should be proud of yourself. Another THUG on the loose.

  7. The judge obviously doesn’t care about animals. NO JAIL TIME??? WTH!
Pay the vet bills .. No fucking shit. Hey maybe this SOB needs to meet an animal lover who’s armed one night.

  8. Oh, HELL NO! It doesn’t send any message at all, other than it is ok to destroy the health and well being of another living being. Anyone could have been hurt when a wack-job has any sort of a gun in hand.

  9. Is that asswipe judge the guys relative? Or other??? Maybe shooting out one eye of the basturd that hurt the pup!!! And nine months of potshots at the basturd shooter as well!!! Sometimes the justice system in small town needs to go back to school to l arm ho the system is supposed to work!!

  10. This idiot who shot out a dog’s eye literally got a slap on the wrist – apparently Judge Hyde has been on the bench too long OR has the compassion of a doorknob. Kim Tibbetts SHOULD be sitting in jail – his actions were cruel and there is no other word for it. I am so sick and tired of these judges treating animals like disposable objects and doing nothing to those who abuse them. Hopefully, Tibbetts will meet his demise under the wheels of an 18 wheeler – SPLAT!

  11. I think the Judge did a very wrong thing by not sentencing him. He will just continue to abuse animals until he transfers it to a child or something. The man needs to be behind bars.
