Meet Mandu; this adorable 11-year-old had been abandoned with some very serious medical issues. The New York City Animal Care Centers reached out to Rescue Dogs Rock NYC for help. And on October 19, Mandu was transferred to the rescue group’s specialty veterinarian in Long Island.

Mandu had been used for breeding, and at 11-years-old, she developed mammary tumors and a bleeding mass on her anal wall. Tragically, she was then discarded and left on the streets to scrounge for food and hide in dark corners while shivering in fear.

Mandu did receive the surgery she needed, but the results of her biopsies have shattered hearts. On Tuesday, Mandu’s update brought tears to supporters’ eyes. Rescue Dogs Rock NYC co-founder Jackie O’Sullivan posted:

“It’s the worst news and not what we had hoped for. The mass and mammary tumors were removed and she was spayed. The biopsies on her mammary tumors and her ovaries came back as carcinoma. While the cancer has not metastasized, there is evidence of cells already in her lymph nodes and her prognosis is poor. Sadly the oncologist gives this adorable girl approx 6 months to live. We are heartbroken over this news which could have been avoided by a simple spay years ago. Mandu also has some back end lameness and trouble walking at times. She will need full time support for the time she has left and we will make sure every day is as great as it can be.”
