In Logoa da Prata, Brazil, animal rescuer Josiane Almeida was told about a desperate situation involving an abandoned mother dog wrapped in a burlap sack with a crying puppy by her side. Josiane and her husband rushed to the deserted road; both were shocked at the cruelty of what they encountered.
Josiane videoed the rescue, warning viewers this was an unforgivable act of animal cruelty.
“One of the worst abuse scenes I’ve ever seen! If you do not have strength, do not look! Sick Mother with puppies tied in a bag and thrown in the middle of nowhere! He’s been there a long time. Dizzy and weak puppies due to lack of air and mother bleeding a lot! How Cowardly! What a sin but God will charge this I am sure! Watch till the end.”
Completely defenseless, the mother dog was apprehensive as the couple drew closer, but seemed to understand these humans were there to help. The one puppy rushed frantically towards his mother as the couple picked up the mom and placed her in the back seat of their vehicle. Carefully cutting away the burlap sack, three more tiny puppies popped their heads out. Everyone seemed very hungry, however the mother dog was bleeding and not doing well.
The dogs were all brought to a nearby veterinarian; the puppies were found to be healthy, but the mother dog had a cancerous tumor and would need chemotherapy to give her the best chances for survival.
“Agency: 1382 operation: 013 account: 22467-0 Name: Edson Tadeu Da Silva CPF: 060981336-62 boys are asking for help for the puppy who was tied in the bag with the pups of the she is with tumor in the vulva and needs urgent start treatment! Each chemotherapy is in 80 real and will need 4! Off the meds! Anyone who can help me warns me forever to send pictures of recovery! Remembering that the only vet with the money in hands here in Lagoa da prata is like this!” (translated)
So far the mother dog has been responding well to the treatments, and she and her babies are all safe. The puppies all suffered from fleas and worms, and have been receiving the best of care. On her Facebook page, Almeida wrote:
“Before, this family was smothered in a sack tossed out to die, but as God is good, we managed to get them out of suffering! They live well with me today! Thank you God for giving me this opportunity.”
When ready, the babies and mom will be available for adoption.
