Mother and daughter die in Jakarta inferno trying to rescue their dogs

On Thursday, a mother and daughter lost their lives trying desperately to rescue their 11 dogs from a West Jakarta fire which burned through 33,000 square feet of structures leaving 450 families homeless.

According to the Jakarta Post, Ah Pong, 70, and her daughter Jok Nam, 40, ignored the calls of police to leave their homes as the inferno moved closer. The women rushed back into the house where the dogs had been trapped. Two other family members were rescued, but many of the dogs perished.

“They wanted to save their dogs. I tried to help them escape the fire but I failed, as the fire was too close,” a neighbor stated.

The neighbor jumped off the balcony of the victims’ home to safety. Even firemen were not able to save the women despite multiple efforts. At least 25 fire trucks were dispatched to the scene. No reason has been given as to the cause of the fire.

Rest in peace.

My heart breaks for these two heroic women and their beloved companions….
I cannot imagine a circumstance where I would not react in that same manner – knowing full well I could never survive the horror of my own cherished canine charges suffering such an end without doing everything humanly possible to save them.
    Rest-in-peace, loving family.

Your heartfelt words are probably exactly what every loving pet owner feels – these women obviously loved their dogs and put their own safety aside in order to attempt to save them. You said it so very well. Thank you.

May God watch over these two women who gave their lives trying to save their dogs. I know many of us can identify with what they were going through as they tried in vane to save their precious companions. May they all rest in peace together.

These dogs are like there children, so would any parent of a child leave them in afire to die? NO! They would try any way they could to save their children which is what this mother and daughter did. May they rest in peace with their fur babies.

I know I would have done the same thing – I would give my life trying to save my dogs, just as either of them would give their life to save me. RIP ladies and your beloved canine family members.
