The 69-year-old man from Texarkana caught on a video recorded in November 2017 abusing a puppy, was sentenced to prison on Monday. LeGus Holloway Jr., pleaded guilty to third-degree felony animal cruelty before 202nd District Judge John Tidwell.
According to the Texarkana Gazette, Holloway’s plea arrangement includes a five-year prison term negotiated between members of the Bowie County Public Defender’s Office and the state’s representatives, First Assistant District Attorney Mike Shepherd and Assistant District Attorney Katie Carter.
The graphic video posted on Instagram in November created a stir among animal lovers. The viral video showed two men and a dog – the dog had been on the receiving end of a brutal beating. At one point, the dog had been whipped with a belt…moments later she was picked up by the neck and slammed to the ground. Almost instantaneously the dog screamed in pain, while one of the men laughed at her suffering; casually mentioning that her leg had been broken.
The puppy, named Lady was removed from the home and treated for a fractured femur. The dog has since made a full recovery.
